Malaysia Airlines is pleased to share news of expanded flight frequencies in response to heightened travel demand during the upcoming Chinese New Year and school holidays, spanning from February to March 2024. A total of 124 additional flights will be deployed, catering to both domestic routes and select international destinations departing from the main hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KUL).

During the Chinese New Year period, the airline will also enhance services by upgrading 12 aircraft to accommodate passengers traveling to and from Kota Kinabalu (BKI), Kuching (KCH), and Penang (PEN). These flights will be operated using Airbus A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft.

In a recent development, sister airline Firefly successfully operated its inaugural international flight to Tawau in the east coast Sabah district. The charter flight, carrying 157 passengers from Nanjing, China, arrived in Tawau on January 23, 2024. Firefly will continue to operate these chartered flights three times weekly, scheduled to land in Tawau every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, with a weekly capacity of 540 seats until the end of March 2024.

Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airlines from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), said, “As we strengthen our position as the unrivalled gateway to Asia, our commitment to excellence transcends services. Additional strategically scheduled flights during the upcoming Chinese New Year and school holidays offer enhanced choices and convenience, reflecting Malaysia Airlines’ dedication to ensuring each journey is seamless and enjoyable. We are introducing these extra flights as a testament to our commitment to the nation and its people, ensuring their ability to return home during the festive season.

As the national flag carrier, nurturing allegiance to our homeland not only fortifies our national identity but also underscores the airline’s dedication to making positive contributions to the growth, prosperity, and pride of Malaysia. This reinforces our commitment to supporting the goals of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026) and extends to positioning KUL as a hub for Asia and beyond, leveraging our role as the national carrier to position Malaysia as a true ASEAN tourism and aviation hub.”

Additionally, Malaysia Airlines encourages sports enthusiasts to explore its new product, MHsports offering, designed for groups of five or more individuals traveling for sporting purposes. This innovative package includes special fares, an extra 10kg baggage allowance, flexible date and time changes, and the convenience of extending the journey with a flexible return date.
