In a significant development at the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024, Malaysia is taking the lead in championing sustainable tourism practices. The ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024, the largest tourism trade event in Southeast Asia, provides a platform for nations to collaborate and promote responsible tourism.

At the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024, Malaysia’s delegation is on a mission to promote sustainable development, stimulate ecotourism in the region, and share best practices for sustainability. The event highlights the importance of preserving existing ecotourism attractions and involving local communities.

The opening ceremony of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024 featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a captivating cultural dance by Istana Budaya, marking the official inauguration of Malaysia’s booth. Dato’ Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, led the ceremony, accompanied by Dato’ Dr. Ammar Bin Abd. Ghapar, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, and H.E. Ambassador Edi Irwan bin Mahmud, Malaysian Ambassador to the Lao PDR.

The Malaysian delegation includes representatives from Perak Tourism, Melaka Tourism, and Johor Tourism, along with local dignitaries, excellencies, media, and key players in the tourism industry. Malaysia’s active participation in the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024 reaffirms its commitment to sustainable tourism practices and regional cooperation.

Moreover, Malaysia will play a pivotal role in the future of the ASEAN Tourism Forum, as it is set to host the event in 2025. This marks Malaysia’s return to hosting the ASEAN Tourism Forum since the last event held in 2014 in Kuching, Sarawak.

Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture Malaysia, is scheduled to attend the 27th ASEAN Tourism Ministers Meeting and the 44th ASEAN Plus Three Tourism Meeting, further strengthening Malaysia’s involvement in regional tourism initiatives.

The official opening ceremony of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024 took place on January 24th, 2024, with H.E. Prime Minister of Laos Sonexay Siphandone presiding over the event at the Don Chan Palace Hotel, Sisattanak District, Vientiane.

The ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024 encompasses two concurrent events: the Ministerial and Bilateral meetings at the Landmark Hotel and the TRAVEX at the Lao ITEC Exhibition Hall. TRAVEX serves as a platform for suppliers of ASEAN tourism products and services to connect with qualified buyers from around the world through pre-scheduled appointments.

At TRAVEX, Malaysia showcases its commitment to eco-tourism and sustainable attractions, demonstrating the harmonious blend of natural beauty with modern urban experiences. Visitors can explore Malaysian traditional handicrafts presented by KARYANEKA at booth number A4 in the Lao ITECC Exhibition Centre, making the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024 a comprehensive platform for promoting responsible and sustainable tourism practices in the region.
