During the International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) in Cannes, Marriott International, Inc. proudly declares the opening of its 500th luxury hotel, solidifying its prominent role in the luxury hospitality sector. With an exceptional array of luxury brands such as The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, W Hotels, The Luxury Collection, EDITION, JW Marriott, and Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, Marriott continues to redefine experiential travel, shaping the future of luxury by providing boundless and transformative cultural exploration.

The 500th luxury property, The St. Regis Riyadh, marks a significant achievement for Marriott, extending its formidable portfolio to 69 countries and territories. The company plans to add five new hotels in the last weeks of 2023 across coveted and emerging destinations globally. Marriott’s luxury development pipeline includes over 200 hotels and resorts, with 24 properties expected to open in 2024.

Embracing New Luxury Frontiers

In response to the increasing demand for personalized travel experiences, Marriott positions itself to not only anticipate but also define luxury trends. Jenni Benzaquen, Senior Vice President of The Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, shares insights into their strategy of exploring ‘nu-luxury frontiers’—innovative escapes merging authenticity, adventure, and exclusivity. In 2023, travelers sought new destinations and ethical escapes, emphasizing sustainable travel practices.

Strategic Evolution of The Ritz-Carlton

The Ritz-Carlton expanded its presence in 2023, opening properties such as The Ritz-Carlton, Portland, The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne (Australia’s tallest hotel), and The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka (Japan). The Ritz-Carlton Reserve portfolio introduced Rissai Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, in Mainland China, reflecting Tibetan culture. The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection will debut its second superyacht, Ilma, in 2024, with Ritz-Carlton Reserve opening properties in the Red Sea and Costa Rica.

St. Regis as a Global Luxury Icon

St. Regis, known for its glamour and vanguard spirit, marked 2023 with openings like The St. Regis Chicago and The St. Regis Kanai Resort in Mexico’s Riviera Maya. St. Regis aims for focused growth in resort destinations, including Los Cabos, Cap Cana, and Florida’s Longboat Key.

Bold Evolution of W Hotels

W Hotels embraced a new chapter in 2023, featuring sophisticated design, cultural programming, and a refreshed visual identity. W expanded globally, introducing W Budapest, W Sydney, W Macau – Studio City, and W Edinburgh. 2024 promises further expansion with openings like W Prague, W New York – Union Square, W Hollywood, W Austin, and W New Orleans – French Quarter.

Global Footprint of EDITION Hotels

In 2023, EDITION Hotels extended its influence globally, introducing properties in Italy, Singapore, and Mexico, with a second location in Tokyo. EDITION’s innovative approach to personalized experiences continues with plans to enter Saudi Arabia in 2024 with The Jeddah EDITION.

The Luxury Collection’s Majestic Expansion

The Luxury Collection, with nearly 115 hotels globally, expanded to unique destinations in 2023, including Nara, Japan, and Tbilisi, Georgia. The brand anticipates debuts in cultural capitals like Madrid, Munich, Nice, Isla Mujeres, Labuan, and Sindalah in 2024.

JW Marriott’s Mindful Hospitality

JW Marriott, inspired by holistic well-being, expanded in 2023 with properties like JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge in Kenya and JW Marriott Jeju Resort & Spa in South Korea. 2024 brings further expansion in Nairobi and Auckland, emphasizing mindfulness in luxury hospitality.
