Meliá Hotels International, Spain’s premier hotel group and the third-largest in Europe, has unveiled its ambitious global expansion plan for its luxury brands. With one in three upcoming openings falling under its luxury portfolio, Meliá aims to bring its renowned Spanish hospitality to diverse destinations, ensuring luxury experiences with a sense of responsibility.

In 2023, Meliá expanded its presence in Tanzania with the launch of Ngorongoro Lodge Meliá Collection, situated in one of the world’s most biodiverse locations. The Paradisus by Meliá brand made its European debut with openings in Lanzarote and Gran Canaria. Looking ahead, Meliá is poised to introduce some of its most luxurious hotels, including Palazzo Cordusio Gran Meliá in Milan, ME by Meliá properties in Lisbon and Malta, and ZEL, a lifestyle brand developed in collaboration with tennis legend Rafael Nadal.

The global growth of Gran Meliá Hotels & Resorts remains pivotal in reinforcing Meliá’s presence in the luxury sector. This includes expansion into Europe and Southeast Asia, with upcoming hotels in Albania, Spain, Italy, and Vietnam. Palazzo Cordusio Gran Meliá, set to open in December 2023 in Milan, marks a landmark for the brand, situated in the lovingly restored 19th-Century Palazzo Venezia. Other notable additions include Torre Melina in Barcelona, Gran Meliá Nha Trang in Vietnam, and the expansion of the Paradisus brand in Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.

Meliá’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its new openings, with a focus on responsible tourism. Ngorongoro Lodge Meliá Collection in Tanzania, crafted with environmental respect, and the sustainable event initiative, Road to Net Zero Events, underscore the group’s dedication to corporate responsibility.

The ME by Meliá brand is set to make a splash in Mexico, Malta, and Lisbon in 2024, offering dynamic, stylish, and culturally rooted experiences. Meanwhile, the Paradisus by Meliá brand brings its Destination Inclusive concept to Europe with new openings in Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.

ZEL, a lifestyle brand in collaboration with Rafael Nadal, debuted in Mallorca in 2023 and plans further growth with ZEL Sayulita in Mexico in 2025. Sustainability remains at the forefront, with the opening of Villa Le Blanc Gran Meliá in 2022 setting a benchmark for efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Meliá’s commitment to innovation and sustainability has garnered industry recognition, with accolades such as Best Hotelier of the Year in the Beyond Luxury Awards 2023. The group maintains a positive outlook for 2024, showcasing resilience and growth in the post-pandemic era. Despite global uncertainties, Meliá reports a robust third quarter in 2023, indicating a continued upward trajectory in the tourism sector.
