The Municipality of Mljet’s Tourist Board has initiated a significant project aimed at enhancing and developing a comprehensive network of cycling routes on the island. This initiative, which began towards the end of the previous year, is part of a broader strategy to augment the island’s tourism infrastructure.
- In a workshop that took place in mid-November 2023, the project’s architects, Ms. Lidija Mišćin and Mr. Boris Mišćin, unveiled their proposal for new cycling paths. These proposed routes were accompanied by GPX files and detailed technical information, facilitating easier navigation for cyclists.
- Following the workshop, the early months of this year saw the finalization of these routes, which were then incorporated into newly designed cycling maps. These maps have been made available in three languages: Croatian, English, and Italian, making them accessible to a wider audience of tourists.
- The availability of these consolidated cycling routes across Mljet signifies a notable advancement in the island’s tourism offerings. By focusing on cycling tourism, Mljet is set to provide an enriched experience for visitors, catering to the interests of active tourists and cycling enthusiasts alike.
- These cycling maps, which are now freely available at the Tourist Board office in Sobra, represent a crucial resource for tourists. They not only guide cyclists through the scenic landscapes of Mljet but also emphasize the island’s commitment to sustainable tourism and outdoor activities.
From a global perspective, the development of cycling infrastructure on Mljet illustrates a growing trend in the travel and tourism sector towards offering more environmentally friendly and active travel options. As destinations worldwide seek to diversify their tourist attractions and appeal to a broader spectrum of visitors, projects like the cycling route network on Mljet play a pivotal role in achieving these objectives.
