Myanmar tourism revive with influx of Chinese visitors

In the fiscal year 2022-23, the tourism industry of Myanmar has witnessed major revival as the country greets a huge rush of Chinese tourists, the figures from the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism of Myanmar showed the results.


In Myanmar, with the reopening of foreign commercial airlines in April 2022, arrivals of foreign tourists in the fiscal year 2022-23 to Myanmar increased by almost 187 percent every year, the ministry’s figures pin
pointed the same.


In the fiscal year 2022-23, Myanmar greeted a total of 367,368 foreign tourists which started in April 2022 and concluded in March 2023, as compared to 127,989 registered tourists in the same time a year before as per the figures.


Roughly 48,342 or 13.15 percent of the total among the 367,368 tourists are Chinese nationals, as per the figures of the ministry.


The deputy secretary of the Myanmar ministry of hotels and tourism, U Hla Myint, said that the tourism market of China is huge. U said that if they were aware of their destinations, more of them will come to Myanmar.


Initiations are in progress to take advantage of on the Chinese market, and aim on drawing tourists from India, Russia, and other countries as well, he said.


Myanmar’s Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, in August 2022 in Nay Pyi Taw carried on a basic Chinese-speaking course, which was focused at providing improved tourism services to the Chinese tourists.
