Determined to extend the tourism season and enhance its global appeal, the Municipality is implementing targeted promotional efforts. “We cannot afford to be complacent in such a competitive landscape,” said Deputy Mayor for Tourism Vangelis Katsaras. These initiatives include active collaborations with high-profile international media and travel blogs from France, Switzerland, the UK, Germany, Italy, and the USA. These platforms have spotlighted Naxos’ scenic beauty, rich culinary traditions, cultural heritage, and diverse activities—bolstering the island’s global image.

In September, the Municipality, alongside the Greek National Tourist Board Office in Great Britain, organized a familiarization trip for travel professionals and journalists. The focus was to showcase Naxos’ commitment to sustainable and nature-based tourism. This initiative played a key role in Naxos receiving top honors at the Greek Travel Awards in London, held during WTM 2024. The destination was officially recognized as a leading sustainable location, an award granted following assessments by major British tourism authorities and the Greek National Tourism Organization.

Sustained International Media Presence

The island continues to enjoy prominent features in renowned global media, including TTG UK and La Repubblica in Italy. These articles consistently portray Naxos as a haven for relaxation, nature exploration, and authentic gastronomic experiences, reinforcing its appeal among international audiences.

Major Investment in Eco-Tourism Infrastructure

To further elevate its tourism offering, the Municipality secured €381,215 in funding through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0.” The grant will support the development of an Integrated Hiking Network across Naxos, Donoussa, Iraklia, Ano Koufonissi, and Schinoussa. The initiative includes key improvements in trail signage, accessibility, and the promotion of the islands’ geological and agricultural heritage, catering to eco-conscious and special-interest travelers.

Through coordinated efforts, strategic media presence, and robust investments in sustainable tourism, Naxos is not only cementing its reputation as one of Greece’s premier travel destinations but also building a resilient foundation for future growth.
