Residents have recently been presented with the final design of the new Pimpama train station, an advancement that signifies a significant step towards integrating one of Australia’s rapidly expanding communities with the South East Queensland heavy rail network. Pimpama, alongside Hope Island and Merrimac, is set to benefit from the Cross River Rail initiative, which aims to deliver these three new stations on the Gold Coast.

Following a period of community consultation, ADCO Constructions has been selected to oversee the design and construction of the station, with the commencement of construction activities slated for late 2022. Efforts have since been concentrated on refining the station’s design while simultaneously advancing the construction schedule, incorporating input received from the community.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Bart Mellish has emphasized the importance of the new station for Pimpama, acknowledging the suburb’s status as one of Australia’s most rapidly growing areas. He highlighted the convenience the station will bring to local residents, eliminating the need for commutes to Ormeau or Coomera stations for rail access. Mellish also pointed out the broader benefits, noting the station’s role in supporting employment, with the construction phase generating 535 job opportunities.

Modifications have been made to the station’s design following community feedback, ensuring that the final outcome will address the specific needs of Pimpama’s residents. The station is designed to be fully accessible, featuring lifts on each platform, accessible parking, taxi zones, and drop-off bays.

The completion of the Pimpama station is anticipated to not only enhance the daily lives of Gold Coast residents but also to support the regional tourism industry by improving accessibility and connectivity. With features such as pedestrian access via Kosciuszko Circuit, increased bicycle infrastructure, expanded taxi and drop-off areas, connections to bus services, and 380 parking spaces upon opening, the station is poised to become a vital hub for the community and visitors alike.

As construction progresses, with foundational work for the station’s platforms and retaining wall already underway, anticipation grows for the station’s completion, expected by late 2024, and its opening in 2025. This development, along with ongoing early works at Hope Island and Merrimac stations, underscores a significant investment in the Gold Coast’s infrastructure, promising to boost local tourism by making the region more accessible to travelers and enhancing the overall visitor experience.
