Munich Airport International GmbH (MAI) and its subsidiary, Munich Airport NJ LLC (MANJ), have proudly announced that Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) has been bestowed with a coveted 5-Star Airport Terminal Rating by Skytrax, the leading organization in the air travel industry for ratings. This recognition signifies the pinnacle of customer experience within an airport terminal worldwide. MAI, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Munich Airport, follows in the footsteps of its parent company, which was the first European airport to achieve Skytrax’s prestigious 5-Star rating and has recently been recertified for this distinction for the fourth consecutive time.
The 5-Star Airport Terminal rating is a testament to the exceptional standards of facilities and staff service provided to customers across all facets of the airport environment. To attain this esteemed rating, the staff service and product standards must either meet or exceed global best practices in the evaluated areas.

Inaugurated in January 2023, Terminal A at EWR, boasting a $2.7 billion USD investment and spanning one million square feet, caters to 15 million customers annually, delivering a top-tier experience. Characterized by expansive interiors, floor-to-ceiling windows, captivating local public art installations, locally curated dining options, and small businesses from the neighboring vicinity, the terminal exudes a distinctive ambiance throughout both landside and airside areas.

Throughout the 3-day Skytrax audit, Terminal A garnered praise for its outstanding customer experience offerings. Standout features include user-friendly wayfinding and dynamic TSA signage displaying queue wait times, a diverse array of premium facilities, comfortable seating with plentiful charging options, innovative security screening permitting liquids and electronics in carry-on bags, and a varied selection of local dining and retail establishments.
Moreover, Terminal A integrates digital signage, such as the engaging “Digital Journey of Surprises” at key points, which showcases the essence of New Jersey through its people, landmarks, and innovations. The terminal also boasts a digital Welcome Banner highlighting local art, noteworthy New Jersey Hall of Fame inductees, and must-visit venues across the state, fostering a sense of locale for travelers. Adding to the allure, a striking “Forest of Firsts,” comprised of eight towering LED pillars, pays homage to the state’s innovative spirit, enhancing the overall passenger experience.
In addition to its prestigious 5-Star rating, Terminal A has garnered multiple other accolades for excellence, including the UNESCO Prix Versailles Award, LEED Gold Certification, and the American Society of Civil Engineers 2023 Project of the Year, among others.
