Alaia Belize, Autograph Collection, continues to concentrate on sustainable and immersive travel with the new partnership with Mote Marine Laboratory. Mote is a globally recognized organization for its research and conservation efforts in science. Starting November 23 to 29, 2026, this resort will host a one-week Marine Conservation Residency. Included will be educational programs offered by Mote Marine Laboratory staff.

The initiative will allow guests of all ages to discover the wonders of Belize’s most treasured natural asset, the Great Belize Barrier Reef, through hands-on activities, guided learning sessions and meaningful conservation experiences.

Located on Ambergris Caye with direct access to the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Alaia Belize provides an ideal setting for marine exploration. The partnership reflects the resort’s ongoing commitment to responsible tourism by encouraging travellers to connect with Belize’s unique ecosystem while understanding the importance of protecting marine environments for future generations.

Through this collaboration, guests will gain deeper insights into reef conservation, marine biodiversity and sustainable practices, creating a travel experience that combines discovery, education and environmental responsibility.

During the residency, Mote educators will deliver two to three engaging family-focused programmes each day, allowing children and families to discover marine science through interactive STEM activities, creative art sessions and research-based learning experiences. Guests will explore the hidden wonders of coral reefs, sea turtles, sharks and other marine species while gaining insight into the scientific efforts being made to study, protect and restore Belize’s valuable ocean ecosystems.

The initiative will also feature a special adult-focused programme, Cocktails & Conversation: Happy Hour Ocean Trivia, blending marine education with entertainment through storytelling, conversations and friendly challenges. Drawing inspiration from Mote’s conservation research, the experience will highlight important topics including coral restoration, shark and ray protection, sea turtle conservation and the extraordinary biodiversity that makes Belize a globally significant marine destination.

The partnership will further expand through an exclusive Marriott Bonvoy Moments experience, giving members the chance to bid on specially designed family travel packages featuring a stay at Alaia Belize and a semi-private Beyond the Reef adventure aboard the resort’s REEL Escape. Guided by Mote educators, the excursion will provide guests with a deeper connection to Belize’s underwater world through snorkelling at Hol Chan Marine Reserve and close encounters with the diverse marine life of the Belize Barrier Reef.
