July alone brought 4,193,673 passengers through Phoenix Sky Harbor. That was 0.4% higher than the 4,178,644 passengers recorded in July 2025.

The airport recorded 2,077,974 enplaned passengers during July, up 0.9% year on year. Deplaned passengers reached 2,115,699, a slight decline of 0.2%.

This shows that Phoenix entered the second half of 2026 with passenger volumes remaining above last year’s level, even after an exceptionally busy spring.

American Airlines Remains the Largest Phoenix Carrier as Alaska and Breeze Surge

The airline-level data reveal a market that is growing unevenly.

American Airlines handled 1,886,037 Phoenix passengers in July, up 5.3% from July 2025. Southwest Airlines remained another major operator with 1,325,990 passengers, although its total declined 6.0% year on year.

Some smaller carriers recorded much faster percentage growth. Alaska Airlines reached 159,451 passengers, up 22.8%, while Breeze Airways rose 54.4% to 5,280 passengers.

Volaris was another notable performer. Its July passenger total increased 41.1% to 15,327, strengthening the Mexican carrier’s role in Phoenix’s international aviation mix.

China Airlines handled 6,143 passengers during July, while STARLUX recorded 7,869 passengers. Both show no comparable July 2025 passenger figure in the airport report, making them notable additions to Phoenix’s 2026 airline mix.

Their presence gives Phoenix another international travel dimension alongside established services involving the UK, France, Canada and Mexico.

International Passenger Movement Is Growing

International traffic provides another positive signal.

Phoenix Sky Harbor recorded 104,983 international enplanements in July, up 3.0%. International deplanements reached 116,822, increasing 3.7% from July 2025.

Terminal 4 Carries Most of Phoenix’s Passenger Volume

Terminal 4 handled 3,304,411 passengers in July, compared with 889,262 at Terminal 3. Terminal 4 traffic increased 0.9% year on year, while Terminal 3 declined 1.6%.

That difference reflects Terminal 4’s major role in handling American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and several international carriers, including British Airways, Air France, Aeromexico, Volaris, China Airlines and STARLUX.

Major Events Keep Phoenix Connected to Visitor Demand

Airport traffic also overlaps with Phoenix’s role as a major-event city.

The City of Phoenix reported that the 2026 NCAA Women’s Final Four attracted visitors from 41 US states and seven countries. The full tournament recorded 360,823 attendees, while Tourney Town drew 25,610 people.

The city is already preparing for another large sporting tourism event, with the NBA All-Star Game scheduled for Phoenix in spring 2027.
