On a recent Friday, a group of students from Parrs Wood High School in Didsbury experienced a memorable visit to Manchester Airport, where they were introduced to the workings of the aviation sector through direct encounters with female professionals. Celebrating International Women’s Day, this outing involved 30 students who initially met with airport staff at the AeroZone educational facility, followed by a detailed tour of the newly refurbished Terminal 2.

The day was enriched with dynamic question-and-answer sessions with more than a dozen employees from various departments including security, airfield operations, procurement, hospitality, and community outreach, in addition to representatives from DHL and the Greater Manchester Police.

The students explored the AeroZone’s engaging learning environments and participated in hands-on aviation activities. The highlight of the visit was a tour through Terminal 2, led by Jane Daintith, the Head of Terminal Operations. She provided insights into the complexities of terminal management and shared information about the terminal’s recent upgrades, part of the airport’s extensive £1.3 billion development initiative.

Marcella M’Rabety, Head of Education, Skills and Employment for Manchester Airports Group, said: “It was a privilege to welcome Parrs Wood High School pupils to the airport for the day and offer some insight into the wide variety of career opportunities available at a major travel hub such as this one. This is all part of our vision to empower women to seek out the roles and careers that they want to go for, while ensuring that those careers are accessible for all and that we provide a welcoming and inclusive environment.”
