A close call occurred on April 5 when a tourist bus, which was transporting twenty Chinese tourists, managed to avoid a disaster by veering off the road and tumbling into a forested area adjacent to Highway 331 in the Huay Yai sub-district near Pattaya. This incident plunged the passengers into shock and panic. Upon arrival at the scene, rescue workers found the bus on its side in the forest and promptly assisted the shaken passengers to exit through the emergency exits. Remarkably, no injuries were reported, with passengers only suffering from minor shock and bruises.

The bus driver, 51-year-old Saksit Serikun, recounted that he was ferrying the tourists back from a visit to the Khao Cheechan Buddhist Temple in the Sattahip District to Pattaya for a meal in the Jomtien area. Unfortunately, he experienced sudden fatigue while driving, which led to the bus veering off and descending down an embankment. The authorities have since initiated an investigation into the accident, with an emphasis on examining driver fatigue as a potential cause.

This incident not only raises concerns about road safety for tourists but also emphasizes the importance of ensuring the well-being and alertness of those responsible for transporting tourists. The fact that there were no serious injuries underscores the critical need for stringent safety measures and regular checks on drivers’ fitness to drive, especially in the travel and tourism industry, where the safety of tourists must be paramount. Such incidents, while fortunately not resulting in severe harm, can impact the perception of safety in travel destinations, potentially influencing tourists’ choices and affecting the local tourism industry. The swift response of the rescue workers in this instance highlights the effectiveness of emergency preparedness, an essential aspect of managing and mitigating risks in tourism-related activities.
