The World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards (WSTHA) and The Sustainable Hospitality Alliance (The Alliance) have announced a groundbreaking collaboration to acknowledge leaders in sustainable tourism. The Alliance will actively contribute to shaping the WSTHA program, including serving on its newly formed Advisory Board. This partnership, revealed at Fitur 2024, precedes the inaugural WSTHA Ceremony scheduled for September 27, 2024, in Belize.

The WSTHA Advisory Board comprises eminent figures, scholars, and dignitaries dedicated to advancing net-positive hospitality. These experts will guide and oversee the WSTHA program to encompass the entire travel and hospitality ecosystem, offering insights into best practices, standards, and award categories.

Glenn Mandziuk, CEO of The Alliance, will assume the role of Vice-Chair on the WSTHA Advisory Board, alongside notable individuals such as Hon. Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism, Belize; Chris Imbsen, Director of Sustainability, World Travel & Tourism Council; Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer, Virgin Atlantic; Patricio Azcárate Díaz de Losada, General Secretary, Responsible Tourism Institute; Fran Brasseux, Executive Director, International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education; and Susan Hooper, Chair, Carbon Gap.

The WSTHA will encompass up to 30 award categories, spanning the entire spectrum of the travel and tourism economy, from community initiatives and eco-hotels to food sourcing and clean water. The winners will be announced at the WSTHA Gala Ceremony 2024 in Belize, attended by prominent figures in sustainable tourism.

Justin Cooke, Executive Vice-President of WSTHA, expresses enthusiasm about the high-caliber experts joining the Advisory Board, emphasizing their pivotal role in elevating sustainable best practices and leading the industry towards a net-positive future. Belize, as the Official Host Destination of WSTHA 2024, prioritizes responsible tourism, encouraging projects that engage travelers with its rainforests, reefs, and unique culture in a sustainable manner.

The Alliance, in collaboration with strategic partners, addresses global challenges affecting the planet, people, and places. As part of this collaboration, The Alliance will establish a process to collect and screen best practices exemplifying net-positive hospitality. These practices will serve as case studies, promoting progress within the hospitality sector.

Glenn Mandziuk, CEO of The Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, expresses excitement about the partnership, emphasizing its significance in leading the industry towards net-positive hospitality. The program aims to showcase the industry’s expertise and collective efforts towards achieving net-positive outcomes. Mandziuk looks forward to collaborating with sustainability experts on the Advisory Board to make a significant impact on capturing best-in-class examples of sustainability progress within the industry.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism, Belize, highlights Belize’s commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism, expressing excitement about hosting the inaugural WSTHA Awards. Mahler welcomes the support of sustainability trailblazers on the Advisory Board, anticipating their contributions to the success of the event.
