Post pandemic, Riau Islands is set to revive tourism

The provincial government of Riau Islands is all set to recuperate its creative and tourism economy, which is one of the main incomes of the region after the pandemic.

Quite a few revival initiations have been made by digging into every local tourism development to speed up the growth and revival of the sector, Ansar Ahmad, the Governor of Riau Islands, has said this on Tuesday while taking part in a virtual forum.

He informed that the 2.5 years of the pandemic has hit them bad. They in 2021 were impacted in a very bad way as foreign tourist visits reached a mere height of 1,333 people during the pandemic.

He stated that the province started opening doors to tourists from abroad in April 2022, mainly from Singapore and Malaysia, via a travel bubble scheme conferred upon by the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry.

Foreign tourist visits according to him, to Riau Islands in 2019 surpassed 2.9 million, making the province second after Bali among the provinces of Indonesia with the maximum foreign tourist visits.

He stated that he hoped the forum for talking about strategies related to tourism recovery and increase the number of tourism programs.

In the meantime, Lisya Anggraini, director of Al-Ahmadi Entrepreneurship Centre, said that her side is supporting the business development of micro, small, and medium enterprises which are a part of the tourism.
