Qantas Frequent Flyer members can look forward to exciting enhancements to the loyalty program in 2025, including increased access to premium cabin reward seats, expanded partnerships with global airlines, and higher points earning potential on flights. These changes aim to provide even greater value to members while maintaining the program’s competitive edge.

Increased Reward Seat Availability

In a significant move, Qantas will unlock up to 1 million additional Classic Reward seats for its members in 2025. This expansion includes more premium cabin options and reward seats offered through partnerships with airlines such as Finnair, Air France, KLM, Iberia, and Hawaiian Airlines. This builds on the record-breaking number of reward seats booked in 2024, following the successful launch of the Classic Plus program.

The additional seats will cater to the growing demand for international travel during peak leisure seasons, with routes to Europe, Asia, and North America seeing increased availability. These enhancements underscore Qantas’ commitment to rewarding its loyal customers with more opportunities to travel using their points.

Record-Breaking Reward Seat Offers

Qantas has also announced the release of 1 million reward seats for sale this week. Among these are Classic Plus Reward seats starting at just 6,200 points for over 100 domestic routes across Australia. Additionally, members will soon enjoy the lowest one-way Economy reward seat fares in Australia, with Jetstar short-haul domestic flights starting at only 5,700 points.

“Travel remains the number one priority for our members in how they earn and redeem their points, with 13,000 Classic Reward seats booked every day, including 1,000 Classic seats in premium cabins to international destinations. In addition, thousands of Classic Upgrades are confirmed every week on Qantas flights. These changes are designed to further enhance the ways our members can book Classic Reward seats and the destinations and cabins they can access when they fly.

“Classic Plus, which represents a $120 million investment in the program, has been a game changer since launching last April. Bookings are up threefold on initial expectations and over the December holiday period we saw an 80 per cent increase in members travelling overseas with their points. We’ve also launched nearly 20 sales since Classic Plus was introduced and announced another sale yesterday, discounting millions of reward seats for members across all cabin types.

“We now have partnerships with over 45 airlines, giving members greater flexibility and choice in how they want to be rewarded. The addition of Hawaiian Airlines and more premium cabin seats with Finnair, Air France, KLM and Iberia will later this year begin unlocking up to 1 million additional Classic seats and more opportunities for our members to use their points to book that dream overseas trip.

“This year will see our members earn an additional 4 billion points thanks to an increase in points earned when travelling domestically and the removal of the earn cap for tiered members travelling in our premium cabins. This means tiered members flying in premium cabins domestically require fewer flights to earn their next reward booking.

“We’re also introducing the lowest reward seat fare in Australia, with Jetstar seats for 5,700 points on all short haul domestic routes like Sydney to the Gold Coast and Melbourne to Adelaide, helping members get away faster. This is just the beginning of a broader suite of changes to Jetstar rewards that will deliver even greater value for members in 2025 and beyond.

“A lot has changed in the last six years. These adjustments will ensure we can continue to invest in enhancing the program for the long-term and continue to grow the levels of Classic and Classic Plus Reward seat availability for members year on year,” continued Mr Glance.

“With a number of airlines making changes to their loyalty programs recently, we wanted to give our members as much notice as possible so they can plan their future travel. That’s why our reward fare changes won’t come into effect for at least another six months.”

Boosted Points Earning on Domestic Flights

Starting in July 2025, Qantas will increase points earning rates on domestic flights by up to 25%. Tiered members traveling in premium cabins will benefit significantly, as the airline will remove the existing cap on bonus points earned. For instance:

  • A Bronze member flying from Sydney to Perth in Economy will now earn 1,815 points, up from 1,450 points.
  • A Gold member flying from Sydney to Los Angeles in Business will earn 25,594 points, an increase from 21,375 points.

This initiative is expected to generate nearly 4 billion additional points for members each year, making it easier for travelers to accumulate rewards.

Exciting Updates for Jetstar Flights

Jetstar’s loyalty offerings are also getting a makeover. From August 2025, nearly half of Jetstar’s flights will feature Classic Reward seats starting at just 5,700 points plus taxes. Members will also gain the option to use Qantas Points to upgrade to Business Class on Jetstar flights. This coincides with a major revamp of Jetstar’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, which will double business class capacity to 44 seats per aircraft by February 2026.

Enhancements to Global Airline Partnerships

Qantas Frequent Flyer is expanding its global reach by adding premium reward seats through partnerships with renowned airlines. For the first time, members can book Premium Economy reward seats on Finnair, Air France, KLM, and Iberia. Hawaiian Airlines will also offer increased reward seat availability on popular routes such as Sydney to Honolulu, opening up more options for international travelers.

Adjustments to Points Requirements

From August 2025, the number of points required for Classic Reward seats and Classic Upgrades will see a modest increase. For example:

  • A one-way Business Class ticket from Sydney to Melbourne will rise from 18,400 points to 19,300 points.
  • An Economy ticket from Sydney to London will increase from 55,200 points to 63,500 points.

This marks the first adjustment to Classic Reward seat pricing in six years and ensures that Qantas can continue offering over 20 million reward seats annually while funding other loyalty program initiatives.

Lock In Current Rates Before Changes

Members can book reward seats up to 11 months in advance, allowing them to secure current points rates for travel through June 2026 if booked before August 2025. This provides a window of opportunity for members to maximize their points before the new rates take effect.

A Commitment to Loyalty

Qantas Loyalty CEO Andrew Glance emphasized the airline’s dedication to rewarding its members, noting that the Frequent Flyer program has evolved significantly over its four-decade history. These new changes reaffirm Qantas’ focus on innovation and delivering value to its loyal customer base.

With these updates, Qantas continues to solidify its position as one of the most rewarding loyalty programs in the aviation industry.
