Russia is considering restarting international flights to and from 52 countries after April 9. The Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustinsaid this in a statement.

He added that Russia will restart flight services to and from Argentina, South Africa, and other ‘friendly countries’, since they have not joined the latest wave of Western sanctions on Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine.

Russia imposed broad travel restrictions at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, many of which are still existent. However, Russia has gradually expanded its list of countries that are safe for air travel.

Other countries with which Russia will be resuming flights after April 9 are China, Algeria, Peru, Lebanon and Pakistan.

Mishustinsaid that Russia would be taking away travel restrictions across the land border between Russia and China.

The imposed sanctions alsorestrict Russian airlines from buying aircraft parts or maintenance services from the United States or Europe.
