United States Turns Tech and Entertainment Into Major MICE Travel

It is high time for the U.S. to start experiencing its peak of business tourism as large technology and entertainment conferences are held in conventionally well-equipped cities with many business opportunities for the travellers. From September 15 to 17, Dreamforce took place in San Francisco, and Las Vegas is about to become busy with a whole autumn schedule of conferences for corporate travellers. San Francisco and Las Vegas are two completely different destinations when it comes to MICE tourism. While one destination is linked with technology, another offers good convention facilities along with hotels, entertainment, dining, and meeting places.
San Francisco Becomes a Tech Travel Hub
Dreamforce 2026 took place at Moscone Centre from 15 to 17 September, bringing Salesforce customers, technology professionals, business leaders and developers together for three days of sessions, workshops, networking and product demonstrations. Salesforce lists more than 1,600 sessions and participants from 143 countries as part of the event programme.

The event also gives visitors a reason to explore San Francisco beyond the convention centre. Moscone Center is located in the SoMa district, within reach of Union Square, the Financial District, museums, restaurants and waterfront attractions.
For international delegates, this creates a straightforward combination of business and leisure. Meetings and presentations can occupy the daytime, while evenings can be used for restaurants, neighbourhood exploration or visits to attractions across the city.

Dreamforce Connects AI With Business Travel
Artificial intelligence is one of the central themes of Dreamforce 2026. Salesforce describes this year’s programme around the concept of the “Agentic Enterprise”, with sessions covering AI agents, data, security, automation and business applications.
The technology focus also changes the physical event experience. Delegates can move between workshops, demonstrations, roundtables and networking sessions, with Salesforce providing personalised, AI-powered agenda recommendations through its event platform.

For business travellers, these tools can make large events easier to navigate. Instead of selecting sessions manually from a large programme, visitors can use digital recommendations to organise their time around their professional interests.
San Francisco Hotels Feel the Convention Effect
Large events can influence the wider visitor economy because delegates need accommodation, restaurants, transportation and other services during their stay.

San Francisco Travel’s August 2026 forecast projects 38 Moscone Centre events generating more than 656,000 room nights during the year. The organisation also expects 2026 hotel occupancy of 70.7% and RevPAR of $188.06.
Dreamforce is specifically identified among the major events supporting the city’s convention calendar. Salesforce also confirms that its official Dreamforce hotel block for 2026 has sold out, while additional accommodation remains available through other booking channels.
The effect extends beyond hotels. Delegates attending large technology events spend time in restaurants, use local transport and visit attractions, creating additional activity across the city’s visitor economy.
Las Vegas Prepares for Another Major MICE Season
Las Vegas is approaching another significant period for meetings and conventions. The destination has nearly 15 million square feet of meeting and convention space and more than 150,000 hotel rooms, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

The Las Vegas Convention Center alone covers 4.6 million square feet following its major renovation. Mandalay Bay Convention Center and The Venetian Convention & Expo Center add further large-scale exhibition capacity.
The city also benefits from extensive air connectivity through Harry Reid International Airport, which the LVCVA says provides nonstop service to more than 150 destinations.
These facilities allow Las Vegas to accommodate events involving thousands of delegates while keeping hotels, restaurants, entertainment and meeting venues within a concentrated visitor environment.
Business Travel Meets Las Vegas Entertainment
Las Vegas offers a very different MICE experience from San Francisco. The city is designed around large hotels, convention facilities, restaurants, shows and entertainment, allowing business visitors to build leisure activities around their schedules.
A delegate attending a medical congress or exhibition can move from a conference hall to a restaurant, live show or other attraction without making a long journey across the city.
The destination recorded six million convention attendees in 2025, while more than 2.5 million convention attendees visited during the first four months of 2026, according to the LVCVA.

Technology Changes the Event Floor
AI is also influencing how large American exhibitions are being experienced. Digital matchmaking, automated recommendations, multilingual tools and interactive displays are becoming increasingly visible at major technology and business events.
At Dreamforce, Salesforce’s event platform includes AI-powered recommendations for attendees, while the wider programme includes extensive hands-on AI sessions and demonstrations.
For delegates, the result is an event environment where technology can influence both what they learn and how they move through the venue.
Interactive displays and digital information systems can also help international visitors navigate large exhibition floors, locate meetings and discover relevant exhibitors.
MICE Travel Extends Beyond the Venue
The power of the US business-events industry lies in part in the surroundings of the conference centres. San Francisco provides high-tech, food, culture, and waterfront attractions, whereas Las Vegas brings together huge conference facilities, hotels, and entertainment.
For the international traveller, the business event can thus be the initial step towards the larger American travel experience. The delegate attends a technology conference, adds days of sightseeing to the schedule, or takes advantage of the business event to visit a city. The month of September illustrates how the connection between business and tourism continues through business events. Big conventions increase demand for lodging and transportation, while the destination offers attractions that make tourists want to extend their stay. With technology being increasingly integrated into event organisation and the services of visitors, the MICE experience is also becoming increasingly technological. However, the destination remains key: the convention draws the tourist to the destination, but the surrounding city makes up a large part of the experience.
