The San Diego Museum Council has announced the return of San Diego Museum Month for its 35th year, taking place from February 1-29, 2024. In an unprecedented move, this popular program is expanding to encompass cultural sites in Tijuana and Baja California, making it the most extensive and diverse San Diego Museum Month to date, featuring over 70 regional cultural sites with half-off admission throughout February.

This year, San Diego Museum Month proudly aligns itself as an officially endorsed project of World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024. This year-long international showcase acknowledges cities for their effective use of design to enhance economic, social, cultural, and environmental aspects of life. San Diego Tijuana is not only the first cross-border region but also the first U.S. city to be designated World Design Capital.

Julie Coker, president and CEO of the San Diego Tourism Authority, congratulates the San Diego Museum Council on the program’s remarkable growth, emphasizing the critical role it plays in connecting visitors and locals with the rich arts and cultural landscape. The expansion into cross-border elements not only highlights regional diversity but also enriches the family experience with a wide array of art, science, music, and history, encouraging visitors to explore even more of the beautiful city.

Originating in 1989 to showcase the region’s cultural offerings during a slow period, San Diego Museum Month has evolved into a highly popular program, with over 110,000 people enjoying half-off admission at local museums in 2023. The expansion into Mexico is anticipated to set a new record for participation.

The program now encompasses a broader range of San Diego institutions, including aquariums, nature and wildlife centers, gardens, historic sites, state parks, and more. In 2024, over 70 participating locations, including new additions like LEGOLAND® California Resort and SEA LIFE® Aquarium at LEGOLAND® California Resort, California Wolf Center, and Deer Park Winery & Auto Museum, are featured. For a complete list of participating locations, visit the San Diego Museum Council website.

Museum Month 2024 receives support from First 5 San Diego, with additional funding from the California Arts Council, San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, County of San Diego, and The Pecus Group.

Ensuring museum accessibility is a key aspect of Museum Month, with the San Diego Museum Council partnering once again with the Serra Cooperative Library System. This collaboration provides convenient access to Museum Month passes for local residents across San Diego County.

To participate, Museum Month passes are available for free at local libraries throughout San Diego County starting January 26. Each pass allows up to four half-priced admissions at participating museums. Digital versions of the passes will also be available on the San Diego Museum Council website from February 1, allowing guests to download passes directly to their phones for a hassle-free experience.
