Saudi Arabia Launches Exclusive Sindalah Luxury Resort Island In Visionary NEOM Mega-City

NEOM, Saudi Arabia’s ambitious mega-city project, revealed its “first physical showcase” on Sunday, introducing Sindalah—a luxurious Red Sea island that promises an elevated tourism experience with high-end restaurants, hotels, and exclusive yacht berths. “With the launch of Sindalah, NEOM is dedicated to advancing Saudi Arabia’s vision of luxury tourism,” said chief executive Nadhmi al-Nasr.

The launch of Sindalah comes as questions continue to surface regarding NEOM’s long-term feasibility. The announcement also precedes a significant investor conference, often dubbed “Davos in the Desert,” set to commence in Riyadh on Tuesday.

With the opening of Sindalah, NEOM is marking the start of a new era for luxury tourism in Saudi Arabia. This premier destination provides visitors with an exclusive introduction to the innovative experiences NEOM aims to bring through its array of future projects and developments.

Sindalah spans 840,000 square meters (approximately 200 acres) and is projected to welcome as many as 2,400 visitors daily by 2028, according to the statement.

NEOM’s most ambitious project, The Line, features two parallel, mirror-clad skyscrapers stretching 170 kilometers inland from the coast. When introducing The Line in 2022, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman envisioned it housing over a million residents by 2030, with a potential population reaching nine million by 2045.

However, Bloomberg reported earlier this year that adjusted projections suggest just 300,000 residents might inhabit The Line by the end of the decade, with only 2.4 kilometers of the structure completed by then. NEOM’s development is advancing alongside other flagship projects under Vision 2030, Prince Mohammed’s strategy to prepare the leading oil exporter for a diversified future.

Last year, Saudi Arabia became the sole contender to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, giving the kingdom ten years to construct essential stadiums and enhance its accommodation and transportation infrastructure. In December, Finance Minister Mohammed al-Jadaan announced that officials had chosen to extend the timeline for certain key projects beyond 2030, though he did not specify which projects would be affected.
