Sikkim government issues travel advisory for tourists

On Thursday, Sikkim’s Prem Singh Tamang government requested people who are planning to come to this Himalayan state in the coming days, to delay their program till the situation in the state gets normal as the recent flash flood took at least 14 lives and 102 are missing, as per the PTI report.


Also, the state government has requested the ones who are marooned in the flood-hit Mangan district not to get panic-stricken as the concerned government from today i.e., Friday would soon initiate an evacuation process. More than 3,000 tourists, including international visitors have been reported to have got stuck in different sections of Sikkim.


In the meantime, the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department has issued an advisory as well explaining that all potential tourists who are planning to visit Sikkim are suggested to shelve their travel plan temporarily to a later date till the situation gets better. 


Also, the tourism department stated the state government would render all probable assistance in regard to the evacuation process that would be starting from October 6 th , subject to weather conditions.


The advisory was unveiled hours later the State chief minister, Tamang, asked officials to stop issuing permits to tourists for places like Baba Mandir, Tsomgo Lake, Nathula etc. from Friday.
