The Indian Army on Wednesday rescued more than 1,217 stranded tourists in East Sikkim.
The army executed the evacuation operation with precision, with an aim to ensure the safety and well-being of the stranded individuals.
The 33 Corps of the Eastern Command said that elderly women and children were stranded in the afternoon in high altitude areas of the north eastern state.
The Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army tirelessly conducted the rescue mission. They were extending well into the late evening.
All stranded tourists were relocated to safer zones and provided with essential amenities. This includes shelter, warm clothing, medical assistance and hot meals, according to the officials.
The soldiers vacated their barracks to enable accommodation of the stranded tourists, the army informed through its release.
The quick reaction by the troops provided relief and comfort to the stranded tourists under inclement weather conditions.
The stranded tourists expressed their deep gratitude for the immediate relief provided by the army, the release stated.
The army, also remains proactive in providing assistance to tourists and the Sikkim-Touristcal population, it added. At that time they were guarding the border areas in the high-altitude areas of the Himalayas.
In a display of exceptional commitment, soldiers went above and beyond by vacating their barracks to ensure the comfortable accommodation of the stranded tourists, further emphasizing the dedication of the Indian Army in safeguarding the well-being of those in need.
