In Singapore, tourist arrivals from China are slowly increasing to the levels of pre-pandemic times, with no signs of drop.

The number of Chinese visitors, for the first time since January 2020, reached the level of 200,000 last month, as per the recent figures from the Singapore Tourism Board published earlier August.

However, in spite of increased tourist arrivals signaling greater business opportunities for tour agencies, several industry firms are not in a celebration mood yet. Due to shortage of tour buses and drivers, they are experiencing a huge setback.

The managing director of Sea Wheel Travel, Mr Jeremy Ng, informed CAN that during the pandemic, they sold many old vehicles and now when they want to expand their fleet, they are not succeeding to do so because of the high cost.

Jeremy added that if they meet the expense they may not have a driver to drive the new vehicles.

In early 2020, when the pandemic situation first hit everyone, many drivers of the company went for driver’s jobs for different public or private vehicles, or even joined other sectors like information technology and never came back, said Mr. Ng. He said that still they are struggling to get experienced people here.
