Sonesta Miami Airport recently celebrated the grand unveiling of its multi-million-dollar renovation with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local dignitaries, Sonesta Hotels & Resorts executives, hotel partners, and community members. The five-month transformation, which began in June 2024, was led by DiLeonardo’s design team and general contractor HITT. The revamped property now blends contemporary design with Miami’s signature style, capturing the vibrant energy of The Magic City for travelers from around the world.

Guests at the event enjoyed an exclusive preview of the hotel’s new amenities, while sampling Miami-inspired dishes with a twist from Tailwinds. Highlights included Mini Cuban Sandwiches, Cheese and Guava Burgers, Fried Yuca Sticks with Cilantro Sauce, and decadent Chocolate Mousse Shots with Whipped Cream. The event’s signature Guava Cosmo cocktail added a flavorful touch, complemented by lively Latin music from DJ Chavela and Son Qba.

“Today marks an exciting new chapter for Sonesta Miami Airport,” said Alex Alvarez, the hotel’s general manager. “As an airport hotel, many of our guests are only with us briefly, but despite that, we wanted to create a space that feels welcoming and uniquely Miami. Our hotel is not just a place to rest between flights – it’s an experience where you can truly feel the energy and culture of the city, even if you’re only here for one night.”

Sonesta Miami Airport has unveiled the stunning results of its multi-million-dollar renovation, which includes a complete transformation of its 309 guestrooms and a range of upgraded amenities designed to enhance the guest experience for both business and leisure travelers. Every room now features luxurious brown leather bed frames and soothing neutral tones, complemented by vibrant, contemporary artwork that creates an inviting and warm atmosphere. For families and groups, 117 guestrooms are equipped with connecting options, offering seamless comfort with king rooms linked to double rooms. While king rooms are outfitted with sleek walk-in showers, all double rooms come with bathtubs, catering to guests’ needs.

A central highlight of the renovation is the newly opened Tailwinds restaurant, which offers a fresh take on South Florida’s Latin-inspired cuisine. The menu, crafted with bold flavors and global influences, features locally sourced ingredients that range from tropical fruits to fresh seafood. Guests can indulge in popular dishes like the Guava Burger—an exclusive recipe created by hotel GM Alex Alvarez’s father—along with Cuban Sandwiches, Peruvian Fried Rice, Churrasco Steak, and Guacamole with Pork Rinds, all served in a stylish setting that reflects Miami’s vibrant culture.

In addition to the redesigned guestrooms, the hotel’s public spaces have been completely reimagined. Guests can relax at the rooftop pool, complete with a spacious sun deck, chaise lounge chairs, and private cabanas. For those looking to stay active, the newly upgraded fitness center offers 24/7 access to state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment.
