Southwest unveils a fresh cabin look, new RECARO seats, and modern uniforms for a superior flight experience and stylish crew presentation.

Southwest Airlines Co. is unveiling a revamped aesthetic and introducing plans for an upgraded cabin experience with newly designed aircraft seats and interior enhancements that truly reflect the unique spirit of Southwest®. This initiative is complemented by a contemporary uniform update for over 53,000 Southwest employees, infusing modern style into the airline’s team presentation.

Cabin Redesign and Seat Improvements for Better Passenger Comfort

In collaboration with Tangerine, a frontrunner in transportation design, Southwest Airlines is set to introduce a refreshed cabin look for new aircraft deliveries starting the following year. This design overhaul draws inspiration from extensive research on customer and employee preferences regarding color, comfort, and the desired in-flight ambiance. The new design encapsulates Southwest’s inviting atmosphere with rich navy hues, soft sky-blue highlights, and subtle references to the Southwest Heart motif throughout the cabin decor.

To complement the serene and inviting cabin atmosphere, Southwest turned to customer feedback and extensive product evaluations to choose RECARO, a globally recognized leader in premium aircraft seating. The new seating arrangement features the Southwest Heart emblem embossed on the headrests, enriched with a sunray design, blending seamlessly with the cabin’s tranquil color scheme.

“Southwest flies above our competition with industry-leading flexibility and our legendary Hospitality,” said Tony Roach, Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer at Southwest Airlines. “Our redesigned cabin interior significantly enhances our inflight Customer experience and will complement the amazing service that our Crews provide.”

RECARO’s seats are designed with an adjustable headrest for superior head and neck support, and an ergonomic design for optimal comfort, ensuring ample seat width and support. These seats are also equipped with personal device holders, enabling passengers to easily enjoy complimentary in-flight entertainment.

“RECARO is proud to collaborate on expanding our footprint in the Americas, especially when working with a local partner like Southwest who began their story at the same time as us,” said Mark Hiller, Ph.D., and CEO of RECARO Aircraft Seating and RECARO Holding. “Our new seat will be a great addition to the Southwest Customer Experience, as its durable design and comfort features will serve Passengers well.”

“We’re delighted to be part of Southwest’s historic journey and next phase in their modernization plan,” said Matt Round, Chief Creative Officer at Tangerine. “We’ve listened to Southwest’s Customers and Employees and responded by creating a distinctive new cabin interior that meets and exceeds their desires. By working closely with Southwest and all suppliers involved, we were able to ensure the design intent was executed in the cabin to the highest possible quality. The stunning result is a testament to what can be achieved through a collaborative spirit from all those involved.”

Revitalized Uniforms Set to Elevate Employee Appearance

A dedicated Uniform Inspiration Team, comprising 75 Southwest employees, is collaborating with the current apparel provider, Design Collective by Cintas, and fashion consultant Bonnie Markel, to craft a refreshed wardrobe for Southwest employees in various operational roles.

Caroline Bartek, Creative Director at Design Collective by Cintas, highlighted, “This design initiative is a vibrant co-creation effort, symbolizing a true partnership between Southwest Airlines, the Uniform Inspiration Team, Design Collective, and Bonnie Markel.” Abby Groshek, Apparel Designer at Design Collective by Cintas, added, “The evolving design process, enriched by insights from the Uniform Inspiration Team, aims to deliver apparel that reflects the Southwest brand ethos while meeting the functional and stylistic needs of our employees.”

Ongoing Enhancements to Improve Customer Convenience

Today, it stands as the most adaptable airline, offering unparalleled value through customer-centric policies like two free checked bags, no hidden fees, and the Rapid Rewards® program, renowned for its generous benefits.

Recent initiatives include upgraded WiFi for better internet access inflight, the addition of power ports and enlarged overhead bins on new aircraft, and digital enhancements for easier customer interactions.
