For the next three months, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) will be treating its First and Business Class passengers to culinary delights sourced from the esteemed Restaurant VISTA, nestled in the picturesque village of Sagogn in the Grisons region of Switzerland. Renowned for its gourmet offerings and boasting 15 Gault&Millau points, Restaurant VISTA epitomizes refined dining amidst the breathtaking alpine landscapes of Grisons.

Under the direction of Sandro Steingruber, who serves as both the managing director and chef de cuisine of VISTA, guests can indulge in innovative reinterpretations of Grisons gastronomic treasures during their long-haul flights from Switzerland. Steingruber, hailing from Canton Ticino and with previous experience as the executive chef of Waldhaus Flims Hotel, brings his expertise to the skies by curating a culinary journey that showcases the essence of Grisons cuisine.

“Sandro’s culinary skills are genuinely original and betray a keen devotion to detail,” says Julia
Hillenbrand, SWISS’s Head of Brand Experience. “And I’m delighted that, through his creations
for us, we can give our inflight guests such an enjoyable sensory insight into the flavours and the
aromas of Grisons cuisine.”
“It’s a privilege and, above all, a pleasure for me to present my culinary ‘homeland’ to people from
all over the world,” adds Sandro Steingruber. “Every one of the dishes I have created for SWISS
bears the tastes and the aromas of the Grisons mountains; and I truly hope that SWISS’s guests
enjoy their gastronomic journey aloft.”

The latest installment of the ‘SWISS Taste of Switzerland’ culinary series caters to the discerning palates of SWISS First and Business travelers. First Class passengers can savor delicacies like Bündnerfleisch tartare with pickled mushrooms and a unique twist on the classic Nusstorte (nut pie) parfait. Meanwhile, Business Class patrons can enjoy veal goulash with cream paired with spinach pizokel, followed by a decadent dessert of chocolate cake infused with cherries in Röteli liqueur. Complementing these dishes are a selection of wines and specialty cheeses sourced from Canton Grisons.

Even passengers in SWISS Premium Economy Class can partake in the culinary journey, with offerings inspired by the host canton. Delights include mountain cheese from Ftan and a traditional Grisons nut pie.

Partnering with Gate Gourmet, SWISS has been delighting passengers across its First, Business, and Premium Economy Classes with regional cuisine for over two decades. Every quarter, in collaboration with Gate Gourmet, SWISS invites a distinguished chef to craft a diverse menu showcasing the culinary traditions of their respective home canton. Gate Gourmet, a subsidiary of gategroup, ensures that these culinary creations maintain their excellence as they are served on board, reaffirming SWISS’s commitment to providing a premium inflight dining experience.
