Kodaikanal hill station hoteliers have recently requested the state government to permit tourists to come and stay with all safety precautions as they are experiencing tremendous monetary issues, as thousands of employees associated with the sector are going through their toughest phase with livelihood loss. Also, they urged the state government to let them off from paying electricity bill and taxes for a sometime.

As the state government has permitted bus transport in majority of districts where Covid-19 cases have dropped significantly, hill stations are yet get opened. People can travel to Kodaikanal only after getting an e-pass. As the economy of the hill station is totally dependent on the tourism, locals are one of the worst-hit in Tamil Nadu.

S Abdul Kani Raja, the secretary of Kodaikanal hoteliers association, have explained that even if the TN government allows tourism to operate from now on, they do not have the means to manage. Government should extend its support for the renewal of tourism.

“Some of the states have given exemption for hoteliers from paying electricity tariffs and taxes for a particular period. We also need similar support for the revival,” he said.
