A tragic incident occurred at San Antonio International Airport when an airport worker was fatally injured after being “ingested” into a Delta Air Lines jet engine. Emergency responders were called to the scene, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has initiated contact with Delta Airlines and is currently gathering information regarding the incident.

The worker was employed by Unifi Aviation, a ground handling Support Company contracted by Delta and other airlines. Delta Airlines expressed its full cooperation in the investigations, emphasizing its commitment to supporting the inquiries into the incident.

Unifi Aviation also released a statement expressing deep sadness over the loss and extending condolences to the deceased worker’s family. The company affirmed that the incident appeared unrelated to its operational processes, safety procedures, and policies.

The airport officials expressed their profound sorrow regarding the incident and confirmed their collaboration with authorities during the investigation. The tragedy follows a recent incident where Piedmont Airlines, an American Airlines subsidiary, was fined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration due to its involvement in the death of a ground agent at an Alabama airport.

As investigations continue, further details will be provided by the relevant authorities. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of prioritising safety measures and reinforcing protocols to ensure the well-being of airport workers and personnel.
