Winter storm disrupts US air travel more than 3,600 flights cancelled, 7,000 delayed; major impact at Chicago O’Hare, Midway, Denver, and Detroit airports.

Winter storm in United States has caused significant disruption in air travel, with Chicago Midway International Airport cancelling approximately 60% of both outbound and inbound flights. At Chicago O’Hare International Airport, the impact has been even more severe, with 488 flights cancelled and 368 delays in the last 24 hours. Other major airports such as Denver International Airport and Detroit Metro Wayne have also experienced disruptions, with Denver cancelling 137 flights and delaying 380, and Detroit cancelling 126 flights and delaying 145.

The effect of the storm on airline operations is further highlighted by the number of cancellations and delays reported by FlightAware:

– SouthWest: 526 flights cancelled and 1,574 delayed.

– Skywest: 589 flights cancelled and 558 delayed.

– United: 983 flights cancelled and 794 delayed.

– Alaska Airlines: 280 flights cancelled and 200 delayed.

– Envoy Air: 162 flights cancelled and 349 delayed.

– American Airlines: 146 flights cancelled and 1,450 delayed.

– Delta: 141 flights cancelled and 831 delayed.

– China Eastern: 185 flights cancelled and 664 delayed.

In total, more than 3,600 flights across the country have been cancelled, with around 7,000 delays. Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport  experienced wind gusts as high as 55 mph.

The aviation sector is also dealing with the grounding of the Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft. According to CNN, this has resulted in the cancellation of over 200 United and Alaska Airlines flights each day. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Boeing are working on an inspection protocol to resume service for these planes.

Winter storm is the main cause of cancelletion. This underscores the extensive impact of the storm on airline operations, independent of the Boeing 737 Max 9 issue.

Also, Attorney General Dana Nessel issued a warning to Michiganders about disaster scams amid the prediction of significant snowfall and gusty winds aimed towards West Michigan.
