Tourism and Hospitality Services AustralAsia (THSA), a prominent advisory and asset management firm in the hotel industry, has bolstered its expertise in the Asia Pacific region with the addition of two highly accomplished professionals.

Founded in 2005 by Managing Director Rodger Powell, THSA boasts a wealth of experience, with Powell himself bringing a lifetime of expertise as a seasoned owner, operator, and executive manager across various hospitality and tourism ventures.

Joining Powell as Partners are:

Mina Li, a seasoned advisor with over 15 years of success specializing in development planning, feasibility studies, investment, and asset management advisory for hotel and hospitality assets in the Asia Pacific. Li previously served as the Director of Investments and Asset Management at Pro-Invest Group, where she spearheaded the acquisition process and established the asset management division for the group’s hotel portfolio. Her extensive background includes significant contributions at Horwath HTL in Hong Kong, where she conducted numerous financial feasibilities across 24 countries in the Asia Pacific region, advising on assets totaling over AUD 2.3 billion.

Ruwan Peiris, a distinguished senior executive with a rich history in top-tier multinational hospitality corporations such as Accor, Marriott, Nikko, and IHG. With extensive experience spanning luxury to mid-scale hotels, convention centers, golf courses, and various other hospitality establishments across the Asia Pacific region, Peiris is renowned for his ability to drive revenue growth and ensure sustainable financial success. His expertise lies in navigating complex challenges to deliver favorable outcomes for clients.

With the addition of these two seasoned professionals, THSA’s team now comprises eight experts who have collectively completed over 800 assignments across six continents.

This expansion comes at a time when the Asia Pacific region is experiencing its first full year of unrestricted trading since 2019. With air capacity rebounding, inflation decreasing, and global stock markets nearing record highs, hospitality transactions are projected to reach levels not seen in over five years, presenting significant opportunities for global groups aiming to solidify their market presence.

“The opportunities in 2024 and beyond across the Asia Pacific region are extraordinary, but so are the challenges, and with Ruwan and Mina joining the THSA team, I believe we can help hotels and their owners enhance their reputation, potential and profit,” said Rodger Powell.

“Current trends present unique challenges and opportunities, necessitating discerning guidance. As global brands grow rapidly, there’s an increasing consumer demand for uniqueness and local flavor. The industry’s evolution now permits a blend of global reach and local authenticity, provided that hotels adopt the appropriate strategies and advice.

The hotel sector is witnessing a boom in new projects and transactions, making it increasingly difficult for individual properties to distinguish themselves. For decades, Mina, Ruwan, and I have successfully navigated such landscapes, boasting a track record of delivering superior outcomes.

Our expertise ranges from offering investment strategies and development assistance to enhancing operational efficiency and repositioning assets. Our independent stance ensures that our counsel is tailor-made to suit the specific needs of each property, its owner, and its market setting. Often, what starts as advice for a singular project evolves into a lasting advisory relationship.

Our distinct approach lies in weaving consumer insights into our investment, development, and operational recommendations, consistently yielding returns that surpass market averages. Our strength lies in our varied experiences as proprietors, managers, and consultants in the hospitality industry, including hotels, restaurants, bars, attractions, and accommodations at every level, enriched by our global consulting experiences. These elements combine to form the comprehensive strategy that defines THSA, setting us apart in the industry. This encapsulates the essence of the THSA difference.”
