For this year, entries have now been opened for Cumbria in Bloom contest with six tourism-related honors up for grabs.
In the first two weeks of July, judging will take place and the winners names will be announced at an awards ceremony on September 20th in Ulverston.
In 2017, tourism-related winners were Windermere’s Cedar Manor Hotel, Holgates Caravan Park in Silverdale and Ann Tyson’s House in Hawkshead.
As the official destination management organization of the county, Cumbria Tourism is behind the six special categories for the tourism businesses of the county. They are:
Public houses
Bed and breakfasts/guest accommodation
Small hotels with up to 10 bedrooms
Large hotels
Visitor attractions including golf courses
Self-catering establishments, including holiday parks
To quote Haydn Spedding, Cumbria Tourism executive board member, “As well as being a great asset for local residents,Cumbria’s horticultural offerings are a fantastic draw for visitors and really complement the natural beauty of the county’s coast, lakes and mountains. Following the Lake District’s new UNESCO World Heritage status as a cultural landscape this is a fantastic time to showcase the entire county, and Cumbria Tourism is proud to support Cumbria in Bloom in highlighting the very best of our beautiful and inspirational gardens.”
