Tourism gets back to 2019 level

A representative from the tourism industry of Winnipeg said that hotel occupancies are back to the levels of 2019 every month, showing that the tourism is making a complete revival from the pandemic damage.


Natalie Thiesen, the vice-president of tourism at Economic Development, Winnipeg, said that this is the year of tourism. 


Festivals like Fringe Theatre Festival, Winnipeg International Jazz Festival, Folk Fest and Folklorama have all returned to the city fully. Also, Thiesen said that the presence of the World Police & Fire Games is giving an extra boost up to the financial system.


The vice-president also mentioned that the business calendar of the city is full till the end of 2023. She added that it’s great for the city center and the upturn of some of the most badly impacted businesses and areas of the city.


Heather Stefanson, the Premier, said that the local economy is getting a help from local sports, including the recent adding up like the Canadian Elite Basketball League team of Winnipeg – The Sea Bears.


The premier mentioned that Winnipeg has world’s best fans. On Thursday, Stefanson proclaimed that the local government is granting up to $1 million to aid a bid for Winnipeg to organize the 2025 CEBL championships.
