Vietjet boosts fleet with 2 more leased planes for Lunar New Year demand, adding flights and routes to meet the festive travel surge.

Vietjet has expanded its fleet by securing two more aircraft on a wet-lease basis to meet the increased travel demands during the Lunar New Year, a major holiday period in Asia. This enhancement brings the number of aircraft on wet lease to six, complementing its existing fleet of 105 planes that fly across 125 domestic and international routes.

To accommodate the surge in travel during this peak season, the airline has boosted its schedule by nearly 750 flights, offering an extra 154,800 seats. With an eye on the influx of Chinese travelers, Vietjet inaugurated a new flight path from Shanghai to Ho Chi Minh City in December 2023, linking these vibrant metropolises. Furthermore, beginning February 10, 2024, the first day of the Lunar New Year, a new route from Chengdu to Ho Chi Minh City will be launched, enabling travelers from Chengdu to explore Vietnam during its festive season.

The increased flight operations also cover key Vietnamese tourist spots such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Phu Quoc, Hue, Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Da Lat, thus enhancing the travel experience for Chinese visitors to Vietnam.

Over the recent months, Vietjet has actively broadened its international reach by adding flights to several new destinations including Shanghai, Vientiane, Siem Reap (Cambodia), Busan (South Korea), and various cities in Australia like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. This expansion offers a wider range of travel options for Chinese and other international tourists during the spring season.

In 2023, Vietjet conducted 133,000 flights, carrying 25.3 million passengers (excluding Vietjet Thailand), marking a significant increase of 183% over the previous year. This includes over 7.6 million international passengers. The airline also extended its network by launching 33 new routes, both international and domestic, thereby operating a total of 125 routes, which includes 80 international and 45 domestic paths.
