Recently awarded recertification by Green Globe, The Tryall Club stands steadfast in its conviction regarding the significance of sustainable business practices for the health of our planet and the prosperity of future generations. Initially certified in 2010, the resort is dedicated to continuously enhancing its sustainability efforts by implementing effective eco-friendly practices and policies. This showcases a strong commitment to environmental protection and conservation while also raising community awareness.

The Tryall Club is committed to empowering its staff and community members with the knowledge and skills needed to embrace their roles as environmental stewards. Through collaborative efforts with club and villa staff, community partners, recycling stakeholders, and local and international regulatory bodies, the Green Team has successfully implemented a variety of sustainable programs and initiatives over the years.

Island Initiatives
The Tryall Club is proud of its notable accomplishments, establishing the property as a pioneer in environmental sustainability within the island community. The establishment of the Tryall Club Forest Reserve in 2015, spanning 502 acres and recognized as the only private reserve in Jamaica, stands as a testament to this commitment. This initiative aims to preserve the natural ecosystem, actively contributing to biodiversity conservation and providing a sanctuary for local flora and fauna.

In an effort to promote environmental education and foster an appreciation for the history of the Tryall estate, experiential tours such as bird watching, hiking, and heritage tours have been introduced. These tours offer guests the opportunity to connect with nature and explore the national heritage sites located on the property.

The Club also operates its own organic garden, supplying fresh herbs and vegetables to its restaurant kitchens. Guests can participate in cooking classes to learn about local Jamaican cuisine while also gaining insight into sustainable food practices.

Waste Management Strategy
Recent waste management practices have focused on minimizing impacts on the surrounding environment. In 2023, the Tryall Club took the bold step of eliminating plastic water bottles from its operations. Sixteen advanced technology bottle-less water dispenser systems were installed across the property, encouraging responsible behavior among residents and visitors alike. These dispensers provide still or chilled water to fill reusable bottles, significantly reducing plastic waste.

The Club has implemented a comprehensive waste management program, including collaborations with leading recycling partners to address issues such as the recycling of plastics, waste oil, cardboard, and cans on the island. Strategically placed recycling bins encourage waste separation, while the purchase of a garbage truck facilitates organized and efficient garbage collection and disposal practices.

Educating Jamaican Students
The Tryall Club prioritizes the education of future generations, inspiring young people to become more eco-conscious in their daily lives. At the annual summer camp for children aged 5 to 17, campers engage in interactive activities and projects focused on nature conservation. These activities include nature tours, beach cleanups, species identification workshops, and craft projects utilizing onsite plants and recyclable materials.

Last year, Tryall Fund scholarships were awarded to 264 students pursuing various educational programs at local and international institutions. This initiative, which began in 2010 with 17 educational grants, has grown significantly over the years, highlighting the Club’s remarkable contribution to education and sustainability in Jamaica.
