South America and Malaysia are drawing attention in the concert travel market as two of the world’s highest earning touring acts approach important regional performances. According to Billboard Boxscore, BTS generated $171.7 million from 12 August shows, while The Weeknd earned $146.7 million during the same month.

Their results illustrate the scale of ticket demand behind major stadium tours, although local visitor spending has not been reported. Music tourism in South America is a focus ahead of BTS’ October concerts, while Kuala Lumpur is scheduled to host The Weeknd’s November finale. The figures reveal the reach of live entertainment worldwide.

BTS’ August Revenue Highlights the Scale of Stadium Concerts

BTS returned to the top of Billboard’s Top Tours ranking after 801,000 tickets were sold across 12 performances in August. Revenue of $171.7 million was reported, placing the group behind only Beyoncé’s $179.3 million in August 2023 among the biggest monthly grosses in Boxscore history.

It was BTS’ fifth month at No. 1 on the chart, following earlier appearances at the summit in 2019, 2022 and twice during 2026. The record was reached through six pairs of stadium concerts in North America rather than a single extended engagement.

The BTS Arirang World Tour 2026 had already exceeded $500 million in reported ticket revenue since opening in Goyang, South Korea, on 9 April. Billboard identified it as one of fewer than 20 tours to reach that threshold. BTS also became one of seven groups to pass $500 million on a single tour, with the other six identified as rock bands.

North American Venues Provide a Measure of Audience Demand

The largest BTS stop was MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Two concerts on 1 and 2 August generated $32.7 million from 158,000 tickets, according to the reported figures.

Other stadium engagements took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Soldier Field in Chicago and Rogers Centre in Toronto. Each generated between $24 million and $30 million. All six stops appeared on the Top Boxscores chart, with five in its top 10.

These figures provide a clear picture of concert ticket sales, but they do not identify how many audience members travelled from outside the host cities. Spending on hotels, restaurants and local transport was not included in the reported totals.

South America’s October Shows Put BTS in the Regional Spotlight

Music tourism in South America is the next geographic focus of the BTS itinerary, with 14 concerts listed for October. The announcement places the region within a tour that had already surpassed half a billion dollars in ticket revenue before its scheduled South American performances.

The BTS Arirang World Tour 2026 is then due to return to Asia, with performances scheduled between 21 November and 16 March 2027. Billboard reported that 40 shows remained on the itinerary at the time of its assessment.

The wider global concert tourism economic impact cannot be established from ticket revenue alone. The Boxscore figures demonstrate the commercial scale of the performances, but provide no verified estimates of visitor arrivals, overnight stays or destination spending in South America. The regional concert schedule is therefore confirmed; its local tourism contribution has not been quantified in the supplied data.

Malaysia Prepares for The Weeknd’s Scheduled Tour Finale

Malaysia concert tourism comes into focus in Kuala Lumpur, where the final scheduled performance of The Weeknd After Hours Til Dawn Tour is listed for 5 November. The tour began in July 2022 and had passed $1 billion in reported grosses through shows held in Lisbon on 5 and 6 September.

In August, The Weeknd ranked second on Top Tours with $146.7 million in revenue. However, his 995,000 tickets sold exceeded BTS’ attendance and established the highest one-month attendance figure recorded by Boxscore. His previous July figure of 892,000 and Harry Styles’ June 2023 record of 967,000 were both surpassed. Usher and Chris Brown ranked third on $91.8 million from 465,000 tickets.

At London’s Wembley Stadium, five concerts contributed $58.2 million from 368,000 tickets. Further European dates were reported in Madrid, Dublin, Warsaw and Stockholm.

The Weeknd After Hours Til Dawn Tour has demonstrated exceptional audience demand across multiple markets. For Malaysia concert tourism, however, no Kuala Lumpur attendance total, overseas visitor figure or local expenditure estimate was provided. The global concert tourism economic impact of this scheduled finale must therefore be distinguished from the tour’s confirmed ticket earnings.

Conclusion

BTS and The Weeknd have brought exceptionally high ticket sales to Billboard’s touring rankings, with August grosses of $171.7 million and $146.7 million respectively. Their future itineraries also place South America and Malaysia within the international concert calendar. Music tourism in South America is linked to 14 BTS performances in October, while Kuala Lumpur is scheduled to receive The Weeknd on 5 November.

These developments highlight the commercial reach of stadium concerts, but tourism benefits remain unmeasured in the reported figures. Ticket revenue establishes audience demand; separate evidence would still be needed to assess local visitor spending and economic gains.
