United Airlines has made a groundbreaking move by becoming the first major U.S. carrier to offer Starlink Wi-Fi on its mainline flights. This partnership ushers in a new era of in-flight connectivity, promising faster, more reliable internet for passengers across United’s expansive network. With the introduction of Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet technology, travelers can now enjoy a seamless online experience, whether for business or leisure, while cruising at 30,000 feet. This innovative leap reflects United’s commitment to enhancing the customer experience and setting a new standard for in-flight technology, ensuring that passengers stay connected like never before.

United Airlines is set to make history tomorrow at 8 a.m. ET as Flight 2940 departs from Newark/New York to Houston, becoming the first major U.S. carrier to offer Starlink Wi-Fi on a mainline flight. This new service will provide connectivity to both personal devices and in-flight entertainment screens. United plans to equip up to 15 mainline 737-800 aircraft with Starlink every month, and more than half of its regional fleet already offers the service. The airline also expects to have another aircraft type certified to provide Starlink by the end of this year.

Over 170 passengers aboard the Boeing 737-800 will experience high-speed, low-latency internet similar to what they enjoy at home, enabling access to live TV, streaming services, shopping, gaming, and more. On October 15, the Starlink-equipped aircraft is scheduled to operate from Houston (IAH) to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) on flight 365, and from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Houston (IAH) on flight 445, concluding its day in Houston.

United plans to equip each 737-800 with two Starlink antennas, as part of an ambitious plan to install approximately 2,940 antennas throughout its fleet. The first customer flight featuring this service is expected to launch soon.

Starlink Wi-Fi will be complimentary for United MileagePlus® members, with customers being notified prior to their flight if their aircraft is equipped with Starlink.

“We’re committed to raising the bar when it comes to the onboard experience, and with Starlink, we’re changing how people fly,” said David Kinzelman, United’s Chief Customer Officer. “Whether it’s catching a live game, streaming an award show or working, United customers won’t miss a beat when they’re onboard a Starlink-equipped flight.”

United Airlines is revolutionizing in-flight connectivity with Starlink, offering passengers a new way to experience air travel. The service enables:

Live Streaming: Passengers can stream live sports, movies, shows, and more with no buffering, delays, or the need to download content in advance.

Real-time Collaboration: Stay productive by uploading or downloading files, editing documents, and collaborating with colleagues in real-time while airborne.

Gaming at 30,000 Feet: Play live games or watch gaming streams, picking up right where you left off, all while cruising above the clouds.

Effortless Shopping: Shop online, schedule grocery deliveries, and make reservations for dining or travel, all from the convenience of your seat.

Simultaneous Device Connectivity: Passengers can access Starlink on multiple devices, such as their seatback screen, smartphone, tablet, and laptop, all at the same time.

In May 2025, United Airlines took a significant step in revolutionizing air travel with the launch of its first flight equipped with Starlink on a regional jet. This initiative marked the beginning of a broader commitment to upgrading its fleet with cutting-edge connectivity. The integration of Starlink technology has since been rapidly expanded, with over half of United’s regional fleet now outfitted with the high-speed, reliable satellite internet service. Passengers have responded positively, with 90% of those surveyed expressing satisfaction with the seamless and fast connection provided throughout their journey.

The introduction of Starlink is just one component of United’s broader strategy to enhance the in-flight experience for passengers. As part of this transformation, the airline is focused on equipping over 300,000 seatback screens across its planes, a feat that sets United apart as the leader in this area among U.S. carriers. These seatback screens are not only designed to offer entertainment but also integrate various other features, including personalized services and enhanced connectivity options for a more tailored flying experience.

United’s commitment to improving passenger experiences goes beyond technology upgrades. As the airline continues to add hundreds of new aircraft and retrofit existing planes, the goal is clear: to redefine air travel in ways that prioritize customer satisfaction and convenience. The expanded Starlink installation will ensure passengers can stay connected to the digital world, whether they are working, streaming content, or simply browsing the web, even when flying over remote regions with limited ground-based coverage.

United Airlines is leading the way as the first major U.S. carrier to offer Starlink Wi-Fi on mainline flights. This move marks a new era in in-flight connectivity, providing passengers with faster and more reliable internet. With Starlink’s cutting-edge satellite technology, United is setting a new standard for seamless online access at cruising altitude.

With billions of dollars invested in these upgrades, United is signaling its dedication to improving both the tangible and intangible aspects of air travel. By modernizing its fleet and enhancing its digital infrastructure, the airline is working to build stronger brand loyalty, offering passengers more value and an experience that stands out from the competition. This strategic move is designed to not only meet current demands but to position United as the go-to airline for passengers seeking consistent, high-quality service.
