UNWTO has collaborated with the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) to continue guiding the development of tourism in the region.

The 17th edition of the UNWTO-PATA Forum, held in Guilin, China from October 26-27, emphasized the tourism sector’s role in driving growth, enhancing economic resilience, and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals. This Forum serves as a key platform for policymakers, business leaders, and various tourism stakeholders in Asia and the Pacific region.

People, Planet and Prosperity
In collaboration with the Guilin Municipal People’s Government, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region’s Department of Culture and Tourism, and Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the UNWTO-PATA Forum focused on enhancing sustainability across all aspects of the tourism industry. Key topics included trends, innovation, technology, education, skills development, and green investments.

In addition to expert input from National Tourism Administrations, National Tourism Organizations, and Destination Management Organizations, as well as government officials, non-governmental organizations, and industry practitioners, the two-day event included keynote speeches from UNWTO officials. In addition to promoting awareness and education about sustainable tourism among forum attendees and the general public, the trends, insights, research findings, and practices will be utilized to develop policies focused on greater sustainability. This will include making better use of data.

The Forum included a high-level technical session organized by UNWTO on the theme “Rethinking Tourism in post-pandemic times: understanding and adapting to new trends.” Additionally, there was a panel discussion aimed at enhancing collaboration between public and private entities in the tourism sector. During the Forum, UNWTO representatives held meetings with regional leaders, including the Secretary of the CPC Committee and the Mayor of Guilin, as well as with delegates from Hongkong Polytechnic University.
