Delta Air Lines halted meal service for passengers on over 200 flights departing from Detroit Metropolitan Airport this past weekend. The decision followed the airline’s closure of its Detroit meal service facility on Friday.

According to Delta, the shutdown was prompted by a “food safety concern” identified during a routine inspection conducted by the Food and Drug Administration.

Delta announced that it is revamping its process for preparing both hot and cold meals to resume in-flight meal service for its passengers.

During a flight from Detroit to Amsterdam in July, Delta Air Lines faced a serious incident when passengers were served chicken meals that were later discovered to be moldy. The contaminated meals caused several passengers to fall ill mid-flight, prompting the crew to prioritize passenger safety. As a result, the plane was forced to divert and make an emergency landing in New York to address the situation and ensure medical attention was provided to those affected.
