Use of e-scooters and e-bikes in the United Kingdom rises in 2023

Voi reports that users of its e-scooters and e-bikes in the United Kingdom have collectively surpassed 10 million rides in 2023.

This significant milestone is not only a testament to the popularity of Voi’s services but also signals a positive shift toward more sustainable urban transportation options.

Importantly, these 10 million rides have replaced over 3 million car journeys, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and air pollution in towns and cities across the United Kingdom.

The environmental impact of this shift is notable, with the CO2 savings from Voi rides equating to the emissions produced by just over 100 car trips around the world. This underscores the potential of micromobility solutions to make a meaningful contribution to environmental sustainability.

Jack Samler, Voi’s Regional General Manager for the UK, Ireland, and France, expressed satisfaction with the company’s collaboration with trial partners in providing safe, sustainable travel options. The convenience and affordability of Voi’s e-scooters and e-bikes have played a pivotal role in encouraging people to opt for these alternatives over short car trips, thereby fostering cleaner and healthier towns and cities.

In 2023, Voi riders collectively covered an impressive 15 million miles, emphasizing the widespread adoption and integration of micromobility solutions into daily commuting patterns. A recent user survey revealed encouraging results, with 27% of respondents in the UK indicating that they no longer use cars, and 42% reporting reduced car usage in favor of e-scooters. This data highlights a positive trend toward more sustainable and eco-friendly modes of urban transport.

Throughout the year, Voi expanded its operations, venturing into new locations such as London, Cheltenham, and Gloucester, in addition to operating in 10 other towns and cities across the UK, including Cambridge, Oxford, Portsmouth, Southampton, Northampton, Kettering, and Liverpool. The widespread presence of Voi’s micromobility services underscores their role in providing accessible and efficient transportation alternatives that align with evolving preferences for eco-conscious commuting.
