Today, Viasat, Inc., a global communications company, announces the addition of Videosoft Global to its Velaris Partner Network. Videosoft Global specializes in adaptive encoding and secure real-time video transmission over wireless networks.

This partnership amplifies real-time video streaming capabilities over satellite communications, ensuring ground crews remain connected even in areas with poor terrestrial coverage or challenging network conditions. This advancement significantly enhances situational awareness in demanding environments.

An exemplary application of this technology lies in search and rescue operations, where Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) can swiftly reach scenes without compromising safety. These UAVs stream video back to control rooms without relying on ground-based communications infrastructure. Moreover, the technology facilitates real-time onboard monitoring of passengers, enhancing comfort and safety, while also catering to the future air taxi market by connecting with ground-based control centers and vertiports.

Videosoft Global’s innovation not only brings visual and auditory capabilities to uncrewed platforms but also delivers high-quality video at lower data costs. Traditionally, streaming live video consumes significant bandwidth, resulting in high data expenses. However, Videosoft’s technology employs adaptive video compression and transmission, reducing data usage to as little as 4kbps. This not only slashes data costs but also extends operational coverage.

For aviation operators, Videosoft Global’s ‘plug and play’ software seamlessly integrates with Viasat’s low size, weight, and power Velaris satcom terminal, developed in collaboration with Gotonomi. These terminals provide a secure datalink between vehicles, remote operators, and UAV Traffic Management (UTM) systems through Viasat’s resilient, global L-band satellite network.

The amalgamation of lightweight hardware solutions with edge-compute capabilities facilitates swift software integration, simplified installations, reduced latency, and enhanced endurance due to weight and power savings.

Joel Klooster, SVP Flight Safety and AAM at Viasat, said: “Our Velaris Partner Network continues to go from strength to strength, and this latest partnership builds on a years-long relationship with the team at Videosoft Global. This combination demonstrates our vision to include edge-compute capabilities inside the terminal hardware, which will provide a major advantage to software partners and end-users alike.”

Stewart McCone, Chief Executive Officer at Videosoft Global, said: “It’s a privilege to join Viasat’s esteemed Velaris Partner Network, and to bring our robust, secure, and uninterrupted video streaming software to Viasat’s customers and partners. We know how critical our turn-key solutions are to realizing the future of airspace, and this will only be enhanced further by partnering with such industry leaders as Viasat. Together, we plan to continue to innovate and bring novel solutions to the aviation industry.”
