Virgin Voyages, a pioneer in environmentally conscious travel, has won the esteemed ‘Green Partner in Travel Award’ for 2023 from the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA). Thought leaders in the travel industry convened at the 2023 Premium Business Summit in Indian Wells, California, to hear the announcement.
Virgin Voyages distinguished itself in a highly competitive field with its steadfast dedication to sustainable marine fuel and a number of other initiatives. The award is evidence of their commitment to making travel enjoyable and environmentally responsible.
In addition to praising Virgin Voyages, ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby also acknowledged The Travel Corporation and Royal Caribbean. He underlined how important the steps these businesses are taking to improve the sustainability of the travel sector are.
The ‘Green Partner in Travel Award’ is a self-nomination recognition program that takes into account a number of factors, including the partner company’s plan to achieve Net Zero by 2030, steps taken to reduce carbon emissions, the impact on the community, the use of resources, waste reduction, corporate planning for sustainable tourism, and more.
Securing the award was made possible in large part by Virgin Voyages’ recent accomplishments, which included finishing their first test using sustainable marine fuels, having one of the highest percentages of female crew members at sea, and volunteering more than 1,500 hours to communities in 2023.
A Virgin Voyages representative outlined the company’s mission to provide the greatest vacation experience at sea while promoting environmental and social change. The business recognizes that there is still work to be done in order to move toward a more sustainable future, despite its successes.
