The tourism industry of Virginia in 2022 generated around $30.3 billion in terms of visitor spending. It was unveiled as per a recent press release. It is a 20.3% increase from the year before.
As per the declaration by the Virginia Tourism Corporation and Gov. Glenn Youngkin, the Virginia tourism industry directly generated 210,721 jobs last year. Even though this is a rise from the year before by over 25,000 jobs, it is still under the numbers of 2019 by almost 30,000.
Youngkin said that the tourism play an essential role for the financial system. Glenn added that recuperating their tourism was an important goal for them to recover their economy, and their attempted efforts on employment and growth in business has proved to be booming for the Commonwealth.
Food and recreation are leading tourism sectors in Virginia and from 2019, have increased about 10%.
Caren Merrick, Secretary of Commerce and Trade, said that they are quite excited to see visitor spending in Virginia to get back to the numbers that existed pre-pandemic times. The rate of revival of spending and growth proves how much flexible the tourism industry of Virginia is. They look forward to see increased travel in 2023.
