Bahrain Advances Sustainable Tourism With New Investment Forum And EV Push

Bahrain is ready to welcome the International Tourism Investment Forum from January 10 to 12, 2027, under the sponsorship of the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. This forum will be held in partnership with UN Tourism. The purpose of holding the forum is to gather investors, tourism policy-makers, international organisations, and private sector representatives in one place in the kingdom. It provides Bahrain with a new opportunity to showcase its tourism initiatives, investments and infrastructural plans to the world.

International Tourism Investment Forum To Arrive In January 2027

Bahrain’s Tourism Minister Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi and UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Nasser Al Nuwais signed the agreement for the forum during Bahrain’s participation in Arabian Travel Market 2026 in Dubai.

The three-day event will focus on tourism investment trends, partnerships and emerging opportunities. Bahrain is expected to use the forum to introduce investors to its tourism assets, infrastructure, development projects and wider investment environment.

For the destination, the forum also provides an opportunity to connect tourism development with wider economic diversification. Bahrain has been positioning tourism as part of its broader economic development strategy, supported by heritage attractions, hospitality, retail, entertainment and business travel.

Sustainable Mobility Becomes Part Of Bahrain’s Tourism Infrastructure

Alongside the investment push, Bahrain is continuing to expand electric vehicle infrastructure.

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications launched an EV charging station at its headquarters in August 2026 through a partnership with Zayani Investments and Al Salam Bank. The initiative included dedicated EV parking and signage, while the ministry highlighted sustainable transport and the importance of expanding infrastructure for cleaner mobility.

Bahrain has also been developing a broader charging network. Five ultra-fast EV charging stations were inaugurated in 2025 at locations including Diyar Al Muharraq, The Avenues, Adliya, Liwan and Durrat Al Bahrain.

These developments give visitors using electric vehicles more options for moving around the island and support the gradual expansion of lower-emission transport infrastructure.

The Pearling Path Remains A Key Tourism Anchor

Bahrain’s tourism story is closely connected with its heritage, particularly the UNESCO-listed Pearling Path in Muharraq.

The Pearling Path covers approximately three kilometres and includes historic buildings, former pearl merchants’ homes, traditional houses, pearl beds and part of Bu Maher Fort and its coastline. The route offers visitors a direct connection with Bahrain’s pearling history and the economic activity that shaped the island before the oil era.

For tourism planners, heritage areas such as the Pearling Path provide an important link between cultural tourism and modern visitor infrastructure. Improved transport options can make it easier for visitors to combine historic districts with shopping, dining, museums and contemporary attractions during shorter stays.

Bahrain And Saudi Arabia Strengthen Overland Connectivity

Bahrain’s location gives its tourism sector a particularly strong connection with the wider Gulf road network.

The King Fahd Causeway provides the principal road connection between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, making cross-border travel an important component of regional tourism movement. In September 2026, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia also introduced arrangements allowing licensed taxis from both countries to transport passengers across the causeway.

The measure is intended to provide additional transport options for citizens, residents and visitors while supporting smoother movement between the two countries.

However, the specific claim that Bahrain has already accelerated dedicated Range-Extended Electric Vehicle charging corridors connecting the Pearling Path with Saudi Arabia could not be independently verified through the latest official Bahraini sources reviewed for this article.
