During COVID-19, travel restrictions were implemented; Washington tourism like other countries experienced a massive hit and led the economy and tax coffers of this US state lose billions.

However, the pandemic gave many, like Nuñez, a renewed admiration as well for the right worth of travel sector.

At the Washington State University, the assistant director of the School of Hospitality Business Management, Dipra Jha, explained that people gradually started recognizing the regenerative and the therapeutic value of tourism.

For the tourism sector of Washington, this pent-up demand gives a major opportunity. In 2022, this US state has a multimillion-dollar state-wide tourism budget unlike it used to have a decade ago.

Tourism officials expect to entice the return visitors like Nuñez, along with the ones who had never visited the state.
Decade ago, when the tourism office of Washington had shut down and tourism promotion dollars dried up, the US state went through a tough time in acquiring prospective tourists in the country as well as abroad.

As tourists continued visiting Washington comprising millions leaving Seattle on cruises to Alaska, the dearth of a well-planned promotion restricted its reach to new visitors heavily, said Jha. Also, he is a board member for State of Washington Tourism.

He said that people generally do not explore such places that they are not aware of. And unless they are invited, they tend to not visit that place.
