From snowstorms and ‘large hail’ to rainstorms and tornadoes, the National Weather Service has delivered weather warnings in almost every state.
Chilling winds of -45F (-42C) have been predicted in Iowa, where voters are gearing up to take part in the state’s assemblies on Monday.
Warnings of gusts up to 50mph (80km/h) have been given from Texas to New York.
In various areas of Texas, the NWS has alerted about a wintry wind watch through Saturday, and cautioned regarding hypothermia and frostbite. There are forecasts about wind chills with temperatures dropping to -25F (-32C).
The normal low temperature in the Lone Star State was predicted at 15F (-9C), giving rise to worries among energy providers who saw the power grid failure during the Great Texas Freeze of 2021.
