In the first half of 2023, the number of visitors to Japan recuperated to more than 60% of the levels of pre-pandemic times, emphasizing the development of roads to turn into a tourism-oriented country once more. Nevertheless, Japan encountered several tough times comprising serious shortages in labor in hospitality industry.

Last week, All Nippon Airways president and CEO, Shinichi Inoue, said that they’ve emerged from a pandemic tunnel lastly, with a revival in the demand in international flights becoming obvious.

By the Japanese airline, the number of international flights operated is hoped to pick up to almost 70% of the levels of pre-pandemic times at the end of July.

At Haneda last week, Tokyo International Airport for international flights reopened a facility at Terminal 2, after the area remaining shut down for almost three years because of covid.

Expenditure related to tourism has been vigorous. Assisted by a weaker yen, duty-free good related sales have risen enormously. Customer spending on an average basis is double that of the levels of pre-pandemic times, a representative at a department store operator said the above, mentioning that classy products are selling off like anything.

In the meantime, several hotels and ryokan, are at this moment fighting to secure workers to manage a huge rise in guests.
