Based on the theme of ‘Rethinking Tourism’, this year’s World Tourism Day will focus on re-imagining the tourism sector’s development, both in terms of size and significance.

On the 27th of September this year, the Republic of Indonesia will be hosting this year’s edition.

All the UNWTO member states, along with non-members and shareholders from across the private sector, have been invited to host their own festivities in order to uphold the significance of the day and its pivotal theme.

The UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili said that the prospective of tourism is huge, and they have shared responsibilities for making sure that it is fully understood.

On World Tourism Day this year, the UNWTO urges everyone, from tourism workforces to tourists, along with small businesses, large corporations and governments to consider and rethink what can be done and how to do it.

Every year, World Tourism Day has been held on 27 September since 1980.

This particular date marks the anniversary of the acceptance of the Statutes of the Organization in 1970, showing way for the formation of the UNWTO five years later.
