World Tourism Day was celebrated in Assam focusing on luring more visitors to the North-eastern state, with the tourism sector picking up after a pandemic-induced stillness.

The main festivity was held by the Assam government at Kaziranga National Park. Events marking the day were also organized across the state.

Blessed by Maa Kamakhya, decked with unspoiled nature, dotted with hints of a prosperous past, rich cultural heritage and diversity, Assam can turn out to be a heaven for tourists, said the state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The CM also extended a welcome to everyone who wishes to visit and discover Assam.

The Tourism Minister of Assam Jayanta Malla Baruah said that World Tourism Day is observed to create responsiveness regarding the reputation of tourism in influencing the socio-cultural, political and economic standards of the international community.

The minister stated how Assam experiences huge numbers of religious tourists during Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya Temple, while others visit Assam to take pleasure in its nature and wildlife.

This year, the theme is ‘Rethinking Tourism’, and hence, it’s time to rethink tourism and work toward encouraging sustainable tourism for creating a better world, said Baruah.

The minister, who attended the programme at Kaziranga, said that following the pandemic, we all are relooking at tourism and it remains the theme of this year’s celebration as well.
