Tamara Leisure Experiences (TLE) plans to build 40 new hotels by the end of the decade as part of its ₹600 crore growth plan. About half of these hotels will be owned by TLE, while the other half will be operated under franchise by TLE. Hotels owned by TLE will include leisure resorts, retreats, and urban luxury and budget business hotels. Other hotel brands operated by TLE will include leisure resorts, retreats, and urban hotels. Additionally, TLE will offer faith-based and wellness and Ayurvedic-centered hotels.
“India is an extraordinary place to build hospitality because the opportunity is not concentrated in one kind of destination or one kind of traveller,” said Samir MC, CEO, Tamara Leisure Experiences. “Quiet luxury and spiritual travel are two of the fastest-growing currents in Indian tourism, and experiential stays sit at the centre of both. Travellers want to belong to a place, not simply pass through it. Our ambition is to build a group that can respond to those varied needs while allowing every experience to retain its own character. A balanced owned and asset-light model, supported by technology and AI-led guest intelligence, gives us the ability to understand the traveller better, build continuity across journeys and grow with where India is travelling next.”

For Tamara Resorts, owning properties represents a deeper commitment to the destinations where they operate. As Tamara Leisure Experiences (TLE) expands into Kaziranga, the brand is bringing its experiential luxury philosophy to one of India’s most iconic wildlife regions. The resort concept is designed around the landscape itself, where Assam’s forests, grasslands and local communities become an essential part of the guest experience. By maintaining ownership of its resorts, TLE aims to control every aspect of development, ensuring responsible construction, thoughtful growth and stronger connections with the surrounding environment. This approach aligns with the evolving preferences of luxury travellers who increasingly seek privacy, authenticity and meaningful experiences rather than traditional displays of luxury. India’s luxury travel market is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 10.8% through 2033.
The brand’s expansion strategy will also strengthen its presence in South India, with upcoming projects including a 24-houseboat luxury resort in Alleppey scheduled for 2026 and a 50-key farm resort in Hosur. Wellness remains a central pillar of TLE’s hospitality vision, supported by the rapid growth of India’s wellness tourism sector, which is expected to reach USD 116.3 billion by 2035 with annual growth of 15.3%. The group’s Amal Tamara Ayurveda hospital and retreat in Alleppey, recognised by NABH accreditation, represents its most advanced wellness offering. The expertise developed through Ayurveda programmes at Amal Tamara will continue to influence regenerative and restorative experiences across its wider resort portfolio.

In the Himalayan region, TLE has expanded into Kufri through its first asset-light partnership under the Lilac brand. Improved accessibility and growing demand for nature-based holidays are encouraging more travellers to explore mountain destinations for peaceful, slow-paced escapes. The company’s expansion also reflects the increasing importance of faith-based travel in India. Religious tourism contributes significantly to domestic travel, while pilgrimage destinations continue to see rising demand for quality accommodation. Rae by Tamara, positioned as a faith-focused hospitality brand, aims to address this growing segment by combining spiritual journeys with comfort, cultural experiences and wellness.
The Rae brand has already established a presence through owned hotels in Guruvayoor and Kumbakonam, with an 80-key property planned in Velankanni. Additional asset-light developments are being planned in major pilgrimage destinations including Tirupati, Tiruvannamalai and Palani. Beyond southern India, Rae by Tamara is expanding towards Bodh Gaya with a planned 120-key hotel and is exploring opportunities in other important spiritual centres such as Varanasi, Amritsar and Ajmer. The expansion reflects changing pilgrimage patterns, with modern travellers increasingly combining spiritual experiences with cultural discovery, family travel and personal wellbeing.

In western India, TLE is exploring opportunities in Jaipur, Pune and Ahmedabad, destinations where heritage tourism, business travel, leisure stays and affluent domestic journeys increasingly intersect. These locations also align with India’s rapidly expanding MICE sector, which is forecast to grow from USD 49.4 billion in 2024 to USD 103.7 billion by 2030. As conferences, corporate gatherings and destination weddings move beyond major metropolitan areas, TLE’s brands are positioned to serve the growing demand for combined work, leisure and celebration experiences.
The O by Tamara and Lilac brands are designed to capture this emerging market opportunity. A 200-key O by Tamara development is progressing in Whitefield, Bengaluru, while a 125-key Lilac property is planned along with a 60-key Lilac hotel in Kannur. The group has also developed a dedicated wedding and events venue in Madurai, strengthening its presence in the celebrations and hospitality segment. Together, these brands aim to build a presence across more than 100 Indian cities, offering travellers different styles of accommodation based on destination, purpose and experience.

With South India serving as its foundation, TLE’s long-term growth strategy focuses on expanding across India while preserving the unique identity of every destination. From wildlife retreats in Kaziranga and Himalayan escapes in Kufri to Ayurveda centres, pilgrimage hotels and urban business stays, the company’s 40-property roadmap reflects the diversity of India’s travel landscape. Rather than creating identical properties across locations, TLE’s vision centres on developing hotels and resorts that respond to the culture, environment and character of each destination, creating experiences that connect travellers more deeply with India’s many regions.
