Starting September 2026, reshaped operation schedules will utilize the additional suburban services based on the expected increased commuter demand. The total daily services will remain at 1,414, while commuters will see positive changes to their travel, including better travel options and smoother operations.

The updated schedule will introduce six new Mumbai local train services, increase AC suburban train operations, modify some routes and timings, and withdraw six existing services. However, the overall number of suburban services will remain unchanged, with Western Railway continuing to operate 1,414 daily local train services.

Western Railway Adds Six New Mumbai Local Train Services From September 2026

The revised timetable will add six new suburban train services, including two Up services and four Down services, to improve connectivity between important suburban stations.

Among the newly introduced services, a morning local from Borivali (BYR) to Virar will depart Borivali at 7:46 am and arrive at Virar at 8:12 am. Another service will operate from Borivali to Borivali Yard (BYR), leaving Borivali at 10:14 pm and reaching its destination at 10:30 pm.

Additional late-evening connectivity will be strengthened through a Borivali–Virar service departing at 10:51 pm and reaching Virar at 11:33 pm. A midnight Borivali–BYR service will also begin operations, leaving Borivali at 12:28 am and arriving at 12:46 am.

Western Railway will also introduce a Bandra (BA)–Churchgate (CCG) service, scheduled to depart Bandra at 11:58 am and reach Churchgate at 12:30 pm. A late-night Virar–Borivali service will operate from Virar at 11:51 pm and arrive at Borivali at 12:26 am.

These additions are designed to provide better travel options during morning, evening and late-night periods when commuter demand remains high.

Six Existing Mumbai Local Services Withdrawn Under New Timetable

Along with introducing new services, Western Railway will remove six existing suburban train services from the schedule as part of the timetable restructuring process.

The withdrawn services include two AC Fast locals and four other suburban services operating on the Churchgate–Borivali and Borivali–Churchgate routes.

The cancelled services are BO94137, BCL90359, BO90483, BCL90911, BO94138 and BO90540.

The adjustment is aimed at creating a more efficient timetable by replacing less suitable services with revised operations that better match passenger movement patterns.

Mumbai AC Local Train Network Expands With Two Additional Services

A major feature of the revised timetable is the increase in AC suburban train services on the Western Railway network.

The number of AC local services will rise from 145 to 147 after the introduction of two additional AC services. The expansion reflects growing demand for air-conditioned commuter travel among daily passengers seeking more comfortable journeys.

The new AC services include a Churchgate–Borivali AC Fast local, numbered BO94105, which will depart Churchgate at 5:28 pm.

Another new AC service, numbered BO94110, will operate from Borivali to Churchgate and will leave Borivali at 6:24 pm.

The expansion of AC services is expected to provide additional options during evening peak hours when commuter traffic is particularly heavy on the western suburban route.

Several Mumbai Local Train Routes to Be Extended and Merged

Western Railway will also introduce route modifications involving several existing suburban services to improve operational efficiency.

Two services, including the Dadar–Virar service 90677 and Virar–Dahanu Road service 93033, will be merged into a combined operation. The revised service will depart from Dadar at 5:22 pm, creating a smoother travel option for passengers.

Another major change involves the Virar–Dadar service VR92046, which currently starts from Virar at 8:23 am. Under the new timetable, the service will be extended up to Churchgate, providing direct connectivity towards South Mumbai.

Similarly, another Dadar–Virar service, VR92069, will also receive an extension up to Churchgate, improving access for passengers travelling towards the city’s commercial districts.

These route extensions are expected to reduce interchange requirements for commuters and improve direct connectivity between suburban areas and central Mumbai.

Some Mumbai Local Trains to Skip Borivali Station After Schedule Change

The revised timetable will also bring changes to station halts for selected services.

The Virar-bound AC service VR94113, which departs Churchgate at 6:22 pm and reaches Virar at 7:46 pm, will no longer stop at Borivali station.

Another service, VR90791, departing Churchgate at 7:05 pm and reaching Virar at 8:27 pm, will also skip Borivali halt.

Additionally, the Churchgate–Borivali AC Slow service BO94029 will be extended up to Goregaon (GMN) before returning towards its route.

These operational changes are intended to streamline train movement and improve punctuality by reducing congestion at busy stations.
